for my preferences and rating/scoring see my profile. Consumed with grilled and smoked hangar steak. Not decanted (it's old!). Consumed between 60-64 degF. At this point in its life, this is pretty &^%$ delicious. fresh yet rich. Sweet (ever so slightly), yet complex and balanced. Yummy. for a nearly 30 year old wine, this is surprisingly fresh. The appearance is relatively clean; slightly translucent; dark red, with only slight bricking. Too soon to say if sediment but not a lot …

Auction purchase. Cork soaked 3/4. First glass probably the best, fruit faded a bit. Red fruit and nicely balanced tannin. Good Italian Merlot.

I like this wine. It still has depth and soul, even though it is a 100% merlot and over twenty years old. My wife and I decanted the bottle through a filter and let it breathe for four hours before pouring two glasses. The color is beautiful, the fragrance is soft yet fruity, and the taste is full with some tannin. Pushing the wine across one's mouth reveals additional complexity and a tint of acidity. There is a hint of …

Brovia Barolos 2006 Horizontal (Bishan) : Tasted blind. Poured into decanter and drank over 1 hour. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tobacco leaf, cigarbox, blackberries, cedarwood. Developing. on the palate, dry, medium+ alcohol (14%), gum-drying puckery high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tobacco leaf, cigar ash, cedar, plush blackberry fruit, black cherries, blueberries. Long finish. Very good quality. I was guessing this …

Pleasant surpise, still dark red/purple with energy, nice for a 20 year old wine. Pleasant nose with some fruit but mostly leather and earth. On the palate, secondary tastes were dominant again some fruit, possibly cassis, plum and a touch of prune. Tannins very round, very smooth. Merlot with an Italian twist. Good for a few more years.

Still very much alive. No brown rim yet. Needs time to breath. Opened this one up one day before drinking it which it really benefited from.

Deep ruby color. Pronounced nose of red fruit (cherry, plum, raspberry), vanilla , spice, cedar and black olive. Medium+ body, medium plus tannin and a surprising freshness and acidity for an almost 20 year old wine. Lots of red fruit, tobacco, black olive and spice on the palate. The finish is definitely long. This would be indistinguishable from a Pomerol from 1998 in a blind tasting. A great wine with 10+ years ahead of it.

Slightly porty initially whilst overly warm. A quick chill down improved this wine no end. Over the next hour it opened up nicely and developed well in the glass. Drink now or over next 3-5 years

Feminine nose, dark fruits. Nice sweet tannin, dark fruits on the palate. I am really starting to enjoy Castelgiocondo's wines with some age on them. Excellent.

Still young and fresh. Popped and poured - improved in the glass. This is a well made merlot with lots of structure and black fruit. Good balance and finish. Drank with a 1997 Ornato. The Ornato was good but not great with real signs of aging and browning. No browning on the purple colored wine with plenty of legs. Most likely reaching its peak - drink over the next 4 years. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. …

I bought a case of this wine long ago and still have a few bottles lingering in the cellar. I"ve always loved this merlot and it's still hangin in there. Drank at X2O last nite and the wine is still very vibrant, with lots of juicy red & black fruit, some chocolate/perhaps mocha, and copious amounts of leather--I always get leather nuances from this wine. Smooth & still silky. It's not a blockbuster and is perhaps a bit light in …

Well past its prime. Fruit has completely faded and structure has broken down; simply nothing left. Impossible to score.

This wine was rated at something like 98 points by the Wine Spectator and James Suckling back in the day. I bought two bottels based on those reviews. The first bottle I had several years ago was kind of tight and boring. I was very disappointed. This particular bottle is still very dark red with some bricking at the rim. Today this wine smells of gravel and not much else. However, it tastes of black and red fruits, gravel with …
