This bottle drank very well although you have to like the sweetness. Lots of juicy fruits, strawberry seemed to dominate for me. Distinct lack of leathery, tobacco and chocolate flavours.

Well past it's best. Pleasant enough but very short on the palette - no lingering flavours at all. Cork was pristine, just think the drinking window was missed.

When I first tasted this wine in 2009, it was a powerhouse, inky, tannic, yet fruit-driven and rich, chewy. As of 2023 it is graceful yet still structured, with the blackberry and black raspberry fruit turned to a stewed expression, with gorgeous cedar aromas, dusty clay soil and a fading sweet pipe tobacco note that is quite pretty, and the violets are still fresh. The palate is plush and beautifully integrated, the tannins and the fruit dancing together in a …

has been over two years since my last bottle. this continues to impress. a much more refined barossa shiraz than many of the others you might typically find... it's still fruit fwd but offers a more savoury nose and palate, with cherry, cacao, spice, earth. very smooth and supple with no heavy-handed jamminess or over-extraction. may hold for another year or two but has definitely peaked, so recommend drinking if you've got any left.

Cork in pristine condition. Colour and nose showing evidence of maturity. At 18 years(I would guess almost to the day) the overt fruit character has faded, distinctly showing tertiary characteristics, apart from a lingering eucalyptus note. Balance still holding, but another couple of years will see it into a downswing

this is what shiraz should be like. everything in its right place… scents of dark berry fruit, florals, earth. it has perfect balance in its level of sweetness, spice, length, finish. for those of you searching for a quality oz shiraz that isn't too obvious or a jammy fruit bomb and don't what to break the bank, see if you can find yourself one of these. recommended.

Very similar notes to the last bottle - a higher score because it was just what I needed at the time. It is nicely balanced and not showing any signs of age.

Dark chocolate, plums, blackcurrant, black cherry, liquorice on the palate. Medium to full bodied, intense fruit. Textured wine, with fine grained tannins. The fruit is intense, but the wine has a earthy spiciness that makes this worth drinking. Has a few years on it yet.

Better than earlier bottles, full and ripe with a wallop of toasty oak but did feel a little more balanced than previously. Still think it has a little while to go before it fully comes together but it's a solid, ripe fruited expression of Barossa Shiraz. It does have the stuffing and structure to become something quite interesting with even longer collaring.

Blackbery and blueberry, plum, gravel, beef jerky, menthol, similar to previous notes. Not getting oak that others noted. Smooth, integrated, fresh, still plenty of acid. This wine probably does have years to go but drinking great now if you like fruit at the front. Totally conceals the 15%.

I got blackberry, red fruits and plum on the palate. There are refined tannins with good acidity, plenty of oak but in balance. The fruit is concentrated but not jammy. This is a medium to full bodied wine with decent length and a deep ruby colour. Will continue to develop for a couple more years but drinking very well now.

Initially this was incredibly oaky and pretty hard to get through. Took quite some time to settle down and was better on day 2. Think this will continue to improve but it feels like it needs even more time for the plush fruit and oak to better melt together.

Very tasty, still has quite a primary edge but deep fruit and lovely tannins knit this together and will allow this to age gracefully for many years yet. Looking forward to see how this develops even further.

Deep ruby color. Thick nose of blackberry compote and maybe a cedar or eucalyptus note. On the palate, dark fruit and medium chocolate combine wonderfully -- tastes like a Godiva bonbon, though a touch less sweet. Nice balance, medium length on the finish, and no real heat to speak of. This is hedonistic but not at all over the top, and drinking wonderfully now...

Amazing flavor all around. Dark silky fruit, some spice but not overpowering. There's a comfortable richness in this wine. Palate equally smooth across all areas, nice fruit, spice, calm and rewarding. Truly an exceptional wine!

Another year has helped this one along. Still very primary but feels more settled, balanced and integrated. Lovely silky texture, plush and juicy fruit which hasn't been over extracted. Plenty happening on the palate; spice, blackberry, licorice, cedar and olive tapenade. Many years left in this one, will berry very good in time.

Quite lifted and fresh aromatics with oak in the background. Succulent texture and while at the ripe end of the spectrum, it is not overdone and is very well balanced. Flavors of aniseed, ripe plums, dark cherries and mocha are evident through a medium to long finish. A well made wine with good quality fruit and fine grained tannins which should help the wine age well.

I'm not a big shiraz fan but I'd have to say this one grew on me after it was decanted for an hour. Very dark fruit (blackberry, black cherrry) with a thick smooth feel. Not a bad choice in this category.

Some bottle age has settled this down a little and with a decent 3 hour decant, the wine showed pretty well for its style. A deep garnet colour gives way to lots of generous rich dark berry fruit with a hint of spice in the background. Quite big in style with a long finish but everything still seems in balance. Nice and soft (if perhaps a little sweet at this point) with good structure that should see it last a …

Good nose and very warm to the taste. Very good Shiraz (though not sure commands the $50 price point). A little tangy to the finish.

Shame on me for not reading my own note from January. I was in a rush and grabbed this for dinner and did not decant for more than 30 minutes. I should have let it sit for another 5 years in the cellar. This wine is not necessarily dominated by heat, but the heat never fades. It is apparent on the nose, palate and finish. It is dark and opaque. Big burly shiraz. Oak, vanilla, cherry cream, some cranberry. Thick …

Maybe this will be better in a few years? Right now it is a bit too sweet and/or overripe for me. Huge fruit forward nose of cherry, plum, chocolate and even some bubble gum (the sweetness factor). Smooth on the palate with some pepper and spice coming through on the mid palate. Nice chewy finish. There is enough structure to this to warrant 3-5 years of cellaring. My hope is that in that time, it mellows. EDIT -- After several …

I had very high expectations and although this is a very good wine I am disappointed. Even at the 2nd day this has a lot of heat... really tasty and nice aroma profile. It lacks of complexity and secondary aromas though. Young tannins makes the wine not very elegant. Probably I'm drinking this wine far too young. Right now it is a good, tasty and powerful wine, but it is not challenging you in an intellectual way.

very fruit forward -- i made the mistake of moving from a smooth elegant burgundy to this without long enough in between -- wow, did that wake me up. moderate tannins that are still a bit rough. flavors of black pepper, and dark fruit -- plum?. 10-15 second finish, and some heat on this. some of this remains, so we'll see where it goes over the next night or two

More or less a deep black color and the nose shows just what you would expect. Black pepper, dark fruit, flint almost smoky. There is oak both on the nose and palate but not overwhelmingly much. Rich and round flavors concentrated but not over the the top. Some heat from the alcohol on the finish and a long aftertaste. I'm no big fan of Oz shiraz in general but this is great stuff.
