Not good quality, rather short and slim cork! Old golden, rather developed color, bouquet takes a while to develop, some pear, some kiwi. On the palate quite prominent acidity, to the point of being shrill; apples, apple cider and green kiwi lurking in the middle to foreground; rather svelte body and tending towards lightweight with not very much of a middle palate. Expected a bit more heft and excitement. Finish is medium long at best. Unfortunately the wine was not …

2014 Riesling GG Probe.

Random Friday Party (LaVinesse) : Orange oil, slight menthol, essential oils on the nose. Very weird altogether. Has probably passed its peak so I would drink up sooner rather than later. Is quite educational on the first glass, but I wouldn't manage a bottle by myself.

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2014 (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein) : Glass: Gabriel Universal Bottle opened ~10h before the tasting. I was flashed from this vintage right after release and had high hopes. Not as exiting as expected, but very good. Clear, medium golden color. Fine, fruity, dense nose. On the palate smoky, salty, precise, deep and dense, with a nice tension and good length. Full peak. 92-93

13% ABV. Deep gold appearance. Explosive nose of lemon peel, bruised apple, peach, apricot, blossom, toast, honey, and flint. The same intensity of flavors found on the palate and carries into a prolonged finish. Vibrant acidity ties the entire package together. Nearly a decade into its life and this is showing a fine and complex balance of primary + tertiary. An absolute pleasure to drink right now.

Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, deep golden color. Clean, fully developed and amazing nose! Smoky, spicy, some lime and herbs, incredible deep, dense and complex. Simply beautiful! On the palate the medium+, ripe acidity balances the 13% abv very well. It is fully developed and at its very peak. Smoky, very mineral, some lime, lots of zesty bitterness. Beautiful grip, very deep and dense, also creamy and juicy, with a good balance. Very long, …

Bombe.

Enjoyed two bottles this year. Both came from the same Liebherr wine cabinet. One was definetly not in the best shape - but still a pleasure to drink. But very amber color with the mentioned premox characteristic, especially on the nose with lots of caramel and autumn leaves. Still with surprisingly good balance and good mineral finish, but lacking acidity and freshness of the other bottles. 92 The other bottle was in perfect shape, the wine shined in a medium …

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: First 2022 Tasting : Glass: Zalto Universal Popped and poured, drunk over three days. 1st day blind. Clear, deep golden, glowing color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Herbs, ripe citrus, green tobacco, crushed stones. Sexy, ethereal, complex and simply stunning! Dry, high acidity. On day one a bit unbalanced/nervous, but beautiful from day two onwards. 13% abv. Medium-, rather lean body. On the palate from day two onwards really amazing! Smoke, green tobacco, ripe citrus, …

Salty, smoky, lemony, long. Had a bottle over 5 days with consistent notes. The only disappointing thing it made me unpleasantly boozy each time after one glass, like cheap hard liquor, very unusual.

Tasted twice so far, yesterday and approximately one year ago. This is a fabulous Riesling with seriously touches you. Round and lush and smooth. Everything is woven together perfectly, wonderful nose, wonderful mouthfeel, infinite after taste. Curious how it will develop, I am sure even better. 95++

Kühn‘s St. Nikolaus 2003 -2 Trauben- erinnerte viele an Safran, was ich gut nachvollziehen konnte. 90

This time double decanted with about 4 hours resting time in decanter. Glass: Stölzle Quatrophil Bdx. The wine thanked the oxygen in showing more of its long oak-vinification, more smokey spiciness and savoury notes in the nose. On the palate Sankt Nikolaus fattened up its body significantly, without losing its brilliant focus and tension. Again, the finish was outstanding and everlasting, with a bit more umami and saline minerality as my last bottle. My all-time-favourite dry Riesling so far! I …

Meiningers Finest 100: International Wine Summit (Saalbau, Neustadt an der Weinstraße) : Second time for me tasting this wine and I'm still impressed by the complexity. So many layers of different aromas. Very impressive. On the palate its a totally differential approach than all the GGs I tasted before. Much rounder, softer with pure elegance and a super, super subtle power. This Sankt Nikolaus plays in a totally different league. Kühn told us that he wants to do a different …

Finally i tried the first of my bottles of this controversial discussed Riesling. Drank over 3 days. Glass: Stölzle Quatrophil Bdx. Subtle, ultradeep and very multilayered nose, nearly without any fruit, warm tones or sweetness: green and ginger tea, woodruff, fir needle, mustard seed, granny smith, laurel, eucalyptus, savoy, smoke, stone... On palate very cool, slim, with electrifying wiriness, agility and freshness. Green tea, sweetsour applerings, mint, eucalyptus, some sensations of toffee as a surprising counterpoint before its forcing acidity …

Get-together with friends. All wines were tasted blind. #2 Upon tasting this wine I couldn't help myself, but to think of a high-class burgundy white. It somehow reminded me of Meursault. Either way, it knew how to cloak its typicity and heritage. Lightly lactic notes, serious mineral aromas, candied yellow fruits, lots of chalk, spice and wood. A firmly dense, complex wine with much depth and sappy, spicy fruit, that manages to skip about on one's tongue despite bearing some …

Glass: Riedel Sommelier Chianti Clear, bright golden yellow color. Medium+ intense, developing and astonishing nose, which has nothing in common with usual Rheingau Riesling: tobacco notes, musty apple, ginger tea. Wonderful and unique! Bone dry. Complex wine with layers and layers of different flavors. Ripe, mellow fruit, salty mineral notes, spices, herbs. Really great! All aromas linger on the palate for very long time. Definitively not an easy drinking wine, it is really demanding, but it makes so much joy …

I've not much to add to the previous tasting note as we taste the wine together and had nearly the same impression. I only go for a higher score because I think the wine deserves it. You really need the balls to vinify such a wine which is so out of the "normal Riesling scale". It bursts of different layers, depth and calm. Truely a masterpiece. The only concern I have is how will this guy age? We'll see.

Dinner at Mistral (Princeton) with Bala, Jen, Sue and Tash (Princeton, NJ) : A tasty wine. Lovely notes of pear, apple, acidity, minerality. Best with the oysters and with the rabbit and the burratta. Very dry wine - perhaps too dry for Sue and JRex. But I loved it. We got this on close-out at State Line Liquor (in MD) and it was the only bottle they had. Delicious now but could definitely age some more, too. A beautifully-made wine: …

After a very puzzling bottle in February 2014, this is once again performing very well. It is earnest and serious rather than charming or full of finesse, but it displays admirable energy, purity and drive. Rich and spicy Rheingau Riesling character, earthy, with extra colour, bitters and individuality from the fermentation on the skins, has lost the exuberance and the expression of youth but it is complex and harmonious, well constructed, with good weight and intensity, very good length. Great Dry Riesling Tasting of 42 best of the Best in Düsseldorf 7. Flight Bürklin-Wolf Pechstein GC 2002 (93), Hirtzberger Singerriedl Smaragd 2002 (91) Kühn Nikolaus 2 Trauben Riesling 2003 (90), Keller Hubacker 2003 (93) too fat and broad, typical 2003 vintage problem: the low acidity, in this case the alcohol is noticeable, for the weakest wine out of all 42 but still good and nice drinkable

A wine with a really odd flavour profile. Hardly recognisable as Rheingau riesling in the traditional sense, with strong estery, almost beer-like notes, quite powerful bitters from the maceration on the skins and a honeyed note. Lacks fruit, charm and tension however, a bit rough. I now like this much less than I did two years ago.

2003 Dry Riesling - Ten years after : Brass coloured. In the nase, quite a lot of botrytis (honey and nuts), herbs, herbs and herbs (taragon, thyme), some pineapple, but also quite a lot of glue and petrol. On the palate very mineralic, full bodied, nuanced, some burnt caramel and a long and dry finish.

Low-yielding 60 - 80 year old vines, biodynamic viticulture, 30% of the juice fermented on the skins for six weeks, twelve months in 600 litre "Halbstück" barrels, bottled unfiltered in September 2008 under screwcap, does contain sulphites. Right, that's the technical bit out of the way. Golden colour; totally different character from almost any other white wine made in Germany; excellent concentration of fruit and spices - honey melon, apricot and flowers, reminiscent of Condrieu! Deep and very energetic, lovely …
