Splash decanted 90 minutes and then enjoyed over 3 hours of dinner and was last in a lineup of 3 GC Burgundies and a 2000 VCC. This was appropriately last at the beginning of dinner as the dark blue and black fruits were great but the tannin was still quite prominent. By the end of dinner this had fully opened and the tannins had moved into the background, the wine had opened and mellowed a bit (although still plenty of …

Brilliant, irresistible stuff. Severe, volcanic, Taurasi vibes with a lightness and purity so it's not muddied by excess tannin or weight, just a crystalline kind of purity. Hard to stay out of this glass.

PNP. Needed 20 minutes or so to fully open but drinking well. Still has a lot of primary dark fruit and there is still plenty of structure on the finish but this is in the window and very enjoyable right now. A-

Rustic nose of balsamic and spices. It reminds me of an overly woody Barolo. The palate confirms this suspicion, it is dry, woody and on an overly assertive balsamic side. Flavors of prunes and dried fruits. Intense juice and well served by good acidity. Alcoholic finish. This wine perplexes me, it ticks all the boxes of the style I want to avoid in Italy from now on.

Tasted blind. I called it a Barolo. This wine was tight, grippy, and had prune on the finish. Not my favorite.

Still too young with massive tannins, mineral component, quite agressive acidity disturbing the balance a bit.

We think this wine needs to be drunk a bit on the young side and felt rustic and past it peak, dry on the fruit side. We have tried the 2007 in 2014 and that was a 94 so maybe the wines need to be had younger when the fruit is brighter. Not sure , we have some younger vintages and definitely we will deliver those sooner than we thought.. 88 at best

130 years old vines. And you can notice the complexity! Very nice and interesting wine. Still has a long life ahead and right now the tannins are are present in the finish, but still very enyoable right now. VERY good!

Slight sweet almost honeyed vanilla oak - slight influence of age and small percentage new oak. 14%. Elevated acid. Medium plus satiny tannins. Dinner at Home; 2/4/2018-2/17/2018 (Fremont, CA) : Coravin 2/9/18: I'm learning about Etna Rosso, and this is my "high end" example and also one of the only times I've had a pre-phylloxera wine. Light clear ruby, just a hint of bricking; nose is moderately aromatic, slight smoke, minerality, red fruit; palate is medium bodied, ferocious tannins throughout (much more than in the lower end bottlings I had tried, though it settles out a bit with time), black cherry, medium-plus acid; …

A totally adorable effort which shines from greatness and elegance tonight. The fruit for the don Peppino is sourced from vines which have not been affected by phylloxera. Perhaps this is the reason behind intriguing and and complex nose? At first sniff the wine boasts of utter elegance, deep massive fruit and astonishing refinement. The nose has a very pinot like expression but there is no "forest floor" or earth at all. Instead there is a vivid minerality and wet …

Amazing...simply amazing. And I'd say we really should have waited a few more years. I have one more bottle and will try hard to stay away from it til 2020. Also, opened bottle three hours prior and still not enough. (didn't have access to a decanter, though)

Wow. Just wow. Incredibly complex wine that is infused with crushed rock, raspberry, violets and slate. Medium bodied but infused with an incredible depth of flavours. Brilliantly different.

We were absolutely blown away with how good this wine is. Opened as I was curious about this region of Italy that I know very little about and I dare say Galloni was right to give this wine a huge score. Bravo!

A fascinating wine. Delicate like Nebbiolo, but with softer tannin and less of the tar and licorice profile. Took some time to open up, I wish I had some more time with it. Soft violet notes, dark red cherry fruit, a bit of spice and earth. This wine is young and really needs some cellaring time.

Very well presented wine. Delicate and succulent fruits, superb acids all well framed by very svelte tannins. Slightly "linear" wine in the sense that there isn't much breadth to the wine. Age will open it up a bit but it will always be a lean wine. Interest in the wine lies in the fruit which is light leaning away from raspberry and more towards strawberry. Very refreshing wine that is easy to drink but similarly a wine that makes you …
