World Wine Estates – Big Fat Wine Trade Tasting 2024 (The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park) : With a savory nose of ash and cheese, this Pinot Noir was intriguing. The palate leaned heavily towards savory and umami flavors, making it a unique but polarizing wine.

Saw this at a liquor store in Napili, adjacent to Miso Phat who has a BYO policy and I needed some Kirin Ichiban for my Sushi…The lonely bottle sat on the front counter with a post-it note stuck to it that said “Please Buy Me” and an orange clearance tag marked @ $13.99. I contemplated grabbing the bottle but didn’t. The next day, with non-buyer’s remorse, I dropped in and grabbed it. Popped & poured into a very sub-standard glass …

Nicely balanced pinot that hits on all notes. Red fruit with earthiness and subtle smoke. Tastes best with an hour or two to breathe.

A washed-out ruby red color with a pleasant nose of strawberries and raspberries. A glimpse of those tastes is quickly overwhelmed by old oak and damp moss followed by a bitter aftertaste. No mid-palate to speak of -- just a discordant blend of watered down fruit with overpowering oak.

Med (-) ruby. Med (+) red cherry, wild strawberry, red flowers, forest floor, vanilla, w/ subtle sweet baking spices. Dry, but w/ nice fruit, med (+) acidity, med tannin and med alcohol (13.2%). Nice complexity and balance, with med body, med (+) flavor intensity and length. Very good quality, drinking well now w/ some aging potential. Worth buying, particularly if you can find it at the lower end of the $26-$32 spectrum.

Re-tasted … See earlier TN. Fresh, fruity and low on tannins. Today’s pairing: Chicken adobo (Mex style), sous vide for 1hr and then a cpl of minutes on the grill.

This wine reminds me of what I used to love about Wells’ Pinots. That deep end Anderson Valley fruit and structure. Still showing young and expressive with a great backbone. Don’t let the blend fool you, this is a serious wine with plenty of life ahead of it.

Red cherries, strawberries, oak and leather on the nose. Fruity palate with a good balanced acidity and fresh aftertaste. Light/medium bodied. Good wine.

Concentrated, fruity, even jammy, disjointed alcohol, and not much else. Good to very good acid held the wine together well enough. Not what I expected, particularly considering the listed 13.2 abv.

Berries and a as bit tart. Light bodied. A little thin for a PN. Not bad but would spend $ elsewhere.

Notes of strawberry and raspberry. Very light bodied. A bit bitter on the finish. Good at this price point.

Middels fylde. Saftig og frisk. Mye jordbær. God syre. Behagelig munnfølelse. Krydder og urter gjør seg gjeldende utover i smaken. Økende kompleksitet i siste halvdel. Bløte tanniner. God lengde.

Bought this as a PnP while the single vineyard Copain PNs and Chards rest in the cellar. It's not at the same level as the best Copain PNs, but still delicious. Opened it and was tight as a drum, so decanted for an hour and served with a charcuterie plate. Cherries, forest floor, and some spice from the oak. The oak is noticeable, but it's not overwhelming.

Agree with previous notes. Decent every day drinker but there are better wines for the same price.

Pnp, sour cherry, tart cranberry on the palate with some dried apricot on the finish. Sort of like a Mercurey meets Cdr in Cali. Ok wine for weekday consumption for $20 paid.

Initially not a lot of flavor, somewhat acidic. Smoothed out a bit on the second glass (temp or air we couldn't tell, but it improved with time. Nice weekday wine.
