The Wanted Zin Old Vines

Eðalklúbbur, vínsmakk #2 haust 2016 (Marbakkabraut 12) : Mjög svipaður litur og á næstu tveimur vínum á undan. Ilmurinn alveg ásættanlegur: Sveit, útihús, vanilla, sæta. Annað var hins vegar uppi á teningnum þegar vínið var smakkað. Morgunkorn með sultubragði. Foj! Vanillusætuviðbjóðssull! Eina ástæðan fyrir þó þetta hárri einkunn er ilmurinn.

Fruity nose. Paired nicely with beef tenderloin. Good taste the next day as well. On the sweeter side but not overly so.

Would not blind taste this as an Italian Primitivo, more a rich Malbec. However it is enjoyable in a full on blowsy way. The American oak shines through on the nose and palate and combines nicely with the rich dense fruit driven core. Dangerously easy to drink given its 14.5% alcohol!

As Feb 2016 note. Some of our guests preferred this to a couple of reds at over twice the price. Interesting...... Even better next day. Big, full of fruit and character. Not subtle but rather good.

Big spicy, fruity nose. Sweet rich cherry, ripe blueberry, a little raspberry with some port character. Integrated (American) oak and good acidity and body. 14.5%. Extremely drinkable if not very subtle. Great value on special offer. Good on its own but would partner rich stews (and the sweetness would handle duck with a cherry sauce). It might be worth trying with chocolate. Still sweet and full of character next day. Loads of rich vanilla and fruit on th nose and …
