Ansitz Waldgries, Lagrein, Alto Adige

This is the standard Lagrein wine of the Waldgries estate, grown on the sandy-porphyry slopes of the Sankt Magdalena district (city of Bozen/South Tyrol). The wine was matured in large oak casks and used barriques. Intense garnet red in color with a hint of violet. The nose was a bit tight initially, but with some time and aeration it revealed pleasant scents of forest berries, sour cherries, leather and a touch of menthol.
