Enjoyed without decanting alongside porcini risotto. A lovely mature German Spätburgunder with tertiary aromas dominating and only faint fruit notes remaining. Very well balanced with a long, pleasant finish. Clearly in an advanced stage of its drinking window, but still drinking beautifully. I really enjoyed this wine — it’s in a very appealing phase and should hold at this level for several more years.

Amazing. First Becker I had with enough age. This was beautiful. Smokey cherry, leather, earth and beautiful integrated tannins and acidity. Keeps changing and showing different sides.

Definitiv improved with additional bottle age. Still on the younger side, but more complex with herbs and depth on top of the berries notes. Would probably even keep it a few more years before opening another bottle.

My final bottle of the 2004 Becker Pinots! 👁️ murky dark ruby core with brown and watery rim 👃 bacon, tar, wet earth, with air minimal whiff of alcohol 👄 medium body: all the 👃 suggested, tertiary aromas of plums and balsamic, some chocolate and minimal sour cherry Glad I caught this before it went bad. Actually very enjoyable with Burrata and Tomatoes Drink NOW 92p

During a GE/AUT blind tasting. Still a bit closed. Deep and intriguing nose but not revealing everything. Dark fruit, sous-bois, dense palate. It looks like Becker wines really need 15 years to peak.

- Clear and direct nose, somewhat restrained at the moment, mostly red fruit. During the GE/AUT tasting, some of the participants found this wine too thin. Has a similar character to Fürst and Huber but just not as big as they were today. Seems much younger than it is so you don't have to hurry to drink it. - 92p

Impressive PN by renowned producer made from single vineyard of old vines planted in 1967, wine is aged for 18 months in new and used FR oak. Medium garnet colour amber rim. Intense complex aroma of raspberries, leather, tar, dried cherries, smoke, dark chocolate, touch of caramel. Medium body, elegant and vibrant with well integrated high acidity smoky cherry and dried strawberry flavours, tobacco hint, fully resolved medium- tannins, lengthy finish. At its peak and should stay here for 3-5 …

Pale Ruby Medium (+) Acidity Medium (-) Tannin Medium Alcohol Medium (-) Bodied Medium Finish Medium (+) Intensity - Strawberry Jam, Raspberry, Blackberry, Pomegranate, Cherry, Plum, Fig, Vanilla, Five Spice A fruit bomb, packed with ripe, sweet, jammy red and black fruits and berries, almost juice like, some sweet spices, very soft tannin. Some might say it's a little simple, lack depth, especially at this price point, but I love it, it sure is easy drinking but not simple at …

Swiss Pinot and German Spätburgunder : Dark and powerful nose offering intense aromas of dark, slightly alcoholic cherries, earth and smoke; very powerful on the palate as well, full-bodied, big and broad-shouldered and still very structured. Slightly spicy finish; unfortunately this is quite short and astringent at least at this stage of development. Also less complex than others. Maybe in need of more time? 15.5/20

Xavier’s 2017 notes below mostly consistent with mine now. Aromas of black licorice, black earth, green olives, and leaf mold. Too much tart and slightly hot acidity from midpalate to finish to allow the fruit a chance to improve the score. Seems like it will drink fairly well for 10 years, but it’s not easy to enjoy, or to see how it changes its essential nature. A simple roast lamb with mediterranean herbs would serve this well.

Strawberry in the nose, a touch of white truffle. It has something of a Nebbiolo, much less intense but very elegant. On the palate it resembles the Nebbiolo to, but in a elegant and subtile manner. Definitely not a wine of power but of elegance. A long finish. Very nice wine somehow exceptional. Very difficult to forecast the aging: t may develop quite well or it may vanish in the next years.

I wanted to like this more but it was unbalanced by the ripeness. Not sure it has the balance to age well. Still, lovely dark fruits (griottes).

Brambly red fruits with blackcurrant and tomato leaf lingering in the finish enveloped with soft spices. Mid palate was fantastic and held everything together very well. Med + silky tannins and very well integrated acidity. A soft finish that hides alcohol in the most perfect way. Excellent wine. Plenty of life left.

Direkt vor dem Probieren dekantiert. - Farbe: Konzentriert. Dunkel.

Flirty toasted notes on top, but now the lovely, layered red cherry fruit has come through. Open and inviting on the palate - all in harmony with fresh acidity, juicy fruit, and silky texture. The oak is now well integrated, and there's not a sign of heat on the a long spicy finish. Highly enjoyable, and what a big difference from 2,5 years ago. Hats off!

A Grosses Gewächs from the Schweigener Sonnenberg, argilo-calcaire soils, 44 year old vines, aged in oak from the Pfalz, bottled unfined and unfiltered, 13.5% ABV. Decanted for two hours. Lively and youthful, fresh and well-balanced style, creamy and sweet fruit of red berries and cherries, quite a lot of medium toast (and slightly resinous) oak, good concentration and a sound backbone of firm phenolics, good resonance and length. An expertly made wine, put together very well, but at the end …

Attractive red berry nose with some undergrowth and milk chocolate hints, light and alluring. Light to medium body. Very fresh on the palate, red berries, spicy fizz, cranberries, raspberries, interesting. Mineral and lingonberry aftertaste, a bit spicy, very fresh, quite long. Almost rose like, not incredibly complex, but very interesting, early autumnal wine.

Providence Dinner (Providence) : Dark ruby-pruple; Very fresh, pure roest berry fruit with a slight earthiness to it; at once juicy but with a little grip and a nice dose of clean rocky minerality. Blind I thought this could be a lighter Chinon, but just too elegant. Quite impressive. Low or no oak.

The previous few bottles I have had of this, over the last 3 years or so, have had an overwhelmingly smoky nose. This one, the last sadly (I move on to 2005 now), is all fruit and no smoke. Perhaps it has come even more together, perhaps there's some variation - pleasant variation. On the mouth it is all red fruit - cherry mostly - and its acidity perhaps reminds me of a young brunello. I think this is a …

13,5% alc/vol. Bricking rim--not totally, but getting close--with a clear meniscus and a transparent, garnet ruby core. The nose is extremely reminiscent of dried figs, the taste at times even more so. This note subsides somewhat with vigorous swirling, revealing rich black cherry, cranberry, pastry crumbs and a dominating stemmy note that's slightly off-putting, even borderline green. The palate is rich with forest fruit, cran- and elderberry, but finishes a bit short and disjointed, unlike the creamy, give-me-another-drink 'Sankt Paul' …
