Summer BBQ (Chicago, IL) : Quite earthy and mulchy on the nose, with some slightly stewy fruit. Nebbiolo-like amount of tannins. Coarse and rustic; not my cup of tea.

Burgundy BBQ (House of Nanda - Chicago IL) : I continue to struggle to understand this producer, finding this to also be slightly dirty and a little more advanced than I would expect from 2006.

really hitting a great stride. much improved in the last several years. Excellent with the thanksgiving table. Can't stress enough what patience can do for a wine like this. As good as any Santenots I've tried. Very fine.

Open this in advance. Enjoyed with grilled herb de Provence lamb chops. Decanted for 2 hours, but I should have gone longer. Closed upon opening, after the 2 hour window, it began to show its stuff. Wish I had more to go, but this is still a babe, Cellar longer or decant for several hours before consumption. Sous bois, marrow, underbrush, sour cherry, and a touch of reduction made it really interesting, but I never got the hallmark floral tone …

Holed Up Vs. Hurricane Sandy; 10/30/2012-10/31/2012 : Much more expressive than when I tasted this in 2010, but it's still very young. Aromas of cassis, black cherries, tar and hints of game and gravy. The palate is tight and compact, with gritty tannins amd medium acid. Flavors of plums, soil and mineral add serious complexity. Sage and pepper linger on the finish. I'd like to try this again in a year or two.

(Part of a massive tasting with no contemporaneous notes) - Impressive for its ripeness, focus, balance and poise, belying the usual knock on the vintage. Still some firm tannin, and secondary development has barely begun. Should improve quite a bit from here.

Ordered off the list at Bastille in Seattle. Decanted about 30 minutes before delivering to the table. Clear garnet red. The nose was a burst of tart cherry and aniseed. Medium to full bodied with excellent intensity. Alone, this showed elegant herbal characteristics along with tart sonata cherry and some good spicy components. Paired up with pate, braised rabbit with morels and fava beans, and roasted chicken with fingerlings and cauliflower veloute, this really began to sing. Red fruit led …

Beaune-Themed Wines (Ardeo - Washington, D.C.) : dark ruby colored. gorgeous nose of sweet cherries, violets, a farm with sheep, rolling hills, the whole thing. smells like... burgundy, which is why i love burgundy. i can seriously smell the land in this wine. really seductive, dense tannins, but the minerality and acid make it lively. opened up with air to get even more expressive

This is drinking extremely nice right now. Very Volnay, very soft tannins. Once it opens, beautiful, long finish. Outstanding village wine, like a mini premier crus. I'd give it maybe another 2 years.

(13% vol) No formal notes; a lovely wine but could have used another year or two of bottle ages (at least) for my taste. This wine was tasted along side of a N.Z. Pinot Noir, Cloudy Bay 2006, and I think that the N.Z. wine was just ready to drink now and that was the main reason that it outperformed this wine there was a distinct sense of terrorr with this wie which was greatly appreciated.. I would buy this …

WIML87 Tasted April 24, 2008. No formal tasting note. Ordered as part of the tasting menu at Alinea in Chicago. I'm pretty sure we had the Volnay Rose but the wine list had it listed as Rosee. Anyway, the wine didn't show that well to my palate. It came across as a little thin and flat on the palate. Drink over the short term.

Subtle, lovely aromas and flavors of spicy strawberry, watermelon, and white flowers. Cherry comes to the party after it's been open a few days and the wine's just as fresh. Not just pretty, but gorgeous and refined, and an outstanding example of rosé.
