Superb. My first time trying a Selosse bottling, and I have to say it’s an experience worthy of its hefty price tag. A deep and profound nose - honey and apricot were most prominent, kept in balance with fresh lemon zest. On the palate, sherry-like with the oxidative style clearly coming through; chalk, green apple (alongside its striking acidity), almond, fresh bread and an oddly addictive metallic note on the finish. Incredibly clean, with one of the longest finishes I’ve …

Assez classique Selosse, Petit côté oxydatif mais sans excès, quand même une belle fraîcheur et acidité et assez bonne longueur. 92-93

ESTG Year-End Tasting (Newcastle, WA) : Disgorged October 9, 2006. Oh Selosse. Deep, dark, oxidative. Very classic Selosse. Intriguing. But for me a bit past and a bit much.

2009 disgorgement. Still needed ~1hr to fully shine, and it might have been a bit too cold at the beginning. But once it did, wow. Perfect intersection of oxidative, saline notes and mature dried fruits. Wish it had a bit more effervescence but I suppose that's the trade off that has to be made.

Degustation M. Reynaud (Maison Eguiazabal) Oct 2023 (Hendaye, France) : Disgorged 2023. Was a bit restrained at first, but after about 45 minutes it really started showing. Slight oxidative notes and a nice palate that was ample but not to big or "briochey". Nice champagne

D 10/23. Not showing its best tonight. Dominated by oak and waxy notes. Accompanied well a complex multi course menu but didn’t add to it.

Birthday dinner at Fragment : Base 2017. Disgorged 29 Jul 2024, 0.67g/l dosage. By far the best champagne, but I thought this was a '95 Dom because of the golden colour.. Wonderful richness without being overtly oxidative (reinforces my view that only Substance is oxidative in Selosse's range and hence not my style), so deep, complex and bristling with energy. When revealed to be a grower I said had to be Selosse as it was singularly good.

Recent disgorgement with the NFT. This was remarkably similar to the Ulysse Collin Perrieres 48m consumed the night before. It's pointed, with top notes of sherry and a rich complexity that is difficult to come by even among great champagne producers. Could use more time sideways,

Deg: 23 The rich body and bubble, yellow and bruised apples, deep and cheerful acidity, toasted almonds, vanilla, slightly pepper spice, minerals, white flowers, yeast, overall excellent but still young, lacking dramatic points

Disg 8/20. Best bottle of V.O. I've had yet. With a few years post-disg this had rounded out into something more resembling Initial, but still with the sharpness I look for in this bottling.

Champagne II : Always exciting to get the chance of drinking a bottle of Selosse. Great wine! True to the style, oxidative with beautiful balance and freshness. Aromas of apple, roasted nuts, brown butter, almost like Apfelstrudel. (93-94)

Great champagne, which clearly outperformed the other champagnes in a comparative tasting. For a blanc de blancs, it is very full-bodied, rich and intense with great length. The aromas are of apple strudel, walnuts and mineral notes. Very oxidative character with great tension. Great fun!

Dis. 10/28/2021. Deep gold. Pronounced aromas of blossom, bruised apple, pear, lemon peel, chalk, honey, and hazelnut. High acidity, fine creamy mousse, medium+ body, and long mineral and nutty finish. Intensely mineral, but maybe just a little too oxidative for me that it concealed some of the typical aromas from the Maillard reaction which I love. No doubt a one-of-a-kind Champagne.

Dsg 04/2018 Nose of orange peel, citrus, and toasted hazelnuts. A magnificent palate, the oxidative aspect coats a dense, very mature juice. Beautiful complexity, ginger and orange peel, as I often encounter in this cuvée, then a sensation of liquid chalk, a powerful minerality that pushes the juice against an elegant acidity in the background, bringing incredible energy to a complex and elegant ensemble. A grand, impactful finish combining toasted hazelnuts and a beautiful salinity with a superb, vibrant length. …

What a bottle to kick off our wine group's summer dinner at Chez Fifi in New York City. We had managed to source this July 2006-disg. bottle of Jacques Selosse V.O. a few months prior and realised we needed a dinner that lived up to the bottle - this was that dinner. The wine was open and breathing for about 45 minutes before we dived in, but immediately, you got a whiff of that signature Selosse soy sauce alongside white …

Nose: pear, honey, white flower, nuts, dried coconut, citrus Notes: 12.5% ABV, 0.7 g dosage, disgorged July 2024. Although this has everything that's signature in Selosse but I guess this is a little too young right now so the acidity is a bit overwhelming and there's a slight bit of bitterness in the palate. It is wise to wait for a couple more years before revisiting. Drink: 2029+ Rating: 88

Nose has preserved lemon, some minerality, old cupboard and strong brioche. Palate has good energy with earthy undertones. The acidity is amazingly fresh and this feels young even at this age. Transition and finish are somewhat simple and short.

Epic Trip to Piedmont; 4/18/2025-4/26/2025 : This pours deep gold in the glass. The nose is of dried lemon peel, burlap, leather, red apple, tasted nuts, and ripe pear. The palate comes across as quite dry with sharp medium plus acid and dried lemon peel, dried apple, and toasted nuts closing things out. While this was a gorgeous bottle from Seleosse, the Initial poured the day before was the better wine for my tastes.

Disgorging date: 2022/12/22 Incredible depth and width on this champagne. White flowers, honey, ripe orchard fruits and blossom - it is almost like you can sense the layers and texture on the nose. So dense and incredible. Obviously has the oxidative component as well but it just adds to the complexity. On the palate you just get layers upon layers of ripe stone fruit, ripe apples, quince, hazelnuts, honey, and melted butter. Really a mouth coating champagne with mouth watering …
