There was some sticky residue under the capsule with hinted at some leakage, but the wine was sound. Dark brown, "tea-like" in color with some glints of orange. Showstopping palate impact. So much sweetness, but perfectly buffered with lip-pursing acidity. Almost painful intensity with crazy length. I kept shaking my head at the layers of flavor being hurled at me. Wow.

Michael Broadbent has rated 6,000 of the best wines on a 5-star scale. And only 27 of them he gave 6 stars. This is one of them. 99p from Neal Martin. Made just 5 times in 100 years. Deep brown coffee color. Aromas of fig, peach, dried apricots, caramel, spice, wax, honey. Very sweet, probably >300. Yes, color is brown and sugar is high, but that concentration and intensity is just incredible.

Couleur brune, marron terne qui parait-il etait dejà presente en jeunesse. Nez tertiaire, epicé, sur la figue et;les fruits secs, ça manque vraiment d’allant et de fraîcheur aromatique. Bouche sirupeuse, extrêmement sucrée (j’étalonne a plus de 200g mais… on en est loin), dense, compacte, que je ne trouve pas équilibrée (d’autres adorent à la table). Dark brown-orange. Beautiful nose of apricots, molasses, some citrus peel and tropicals, tea, mandarins-marmalade. This reminds me of the great MC HGS wines. Parallel evolution. Wow. Amazing on the palate. Super sweet with amazing persimmon, rich and lively, tangerine and figs. Great acid on the finish. Sweet. Brown spices and molasses. Just great. Nose - 6/6, Palate - 5.5-6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 2/2 = 19-19.5/20.

Don't listen to Seth, it's better than 98 points. ;-). Criticizing this wine is like criticizing Hedy Lamarr as not being the perfect woman because a perfect woman would have sold her spread-spectrum invention to the navy after she invented it. Very tertiary, full of resiny apricot, golden raisin, peach, and caramel. I like mature Vouvray and this is terrific - but it lacks some of the freshness to really propel it to the level of top Vouvrays.

Biryani night (Chicago, IL) : This is as legendary as I thought it would be. This has an extremely (almost unpleasant) dark brown colour, the sticky thickness of syrup, and a multifaceted nose that goes from tart candied citrus, dried stone fruits, and figs all the way to marmalade and burnt sugar. Dark and intense, with a kaleidoscopic array of flavors running from the brightest, lightest fruit to something dark and raisin like. This is a wonderful sweet wine, with plenty of acidity to keep things fresh and lively. It's not as ethereal as the Huet Cuvee Constance, but it is, at the risk of a cliche, it is more "hedonistic". The half bottles must have been an afterthought as the label said 75cl crossed out with 3 red lines and 375ml written above it.
