Ancillary, Pinot Noir Sun Chase Vineyard, Sonoma Coast

A really nice pinot with good energy, balance and rich flavor. Cherry fruited with some blood orange citrus notes. There is a nice spice event that carries through to the finish. Pleasantly dry without overt sweetness or heaviness. Sad Mike and Mark had to part ways and blow up this project.

Decanted for one hour. Nose of red cherry, red raspberry, mushroom and spice. Raspberry, red cherry, earth, mushroom and spice on the palate. Very long finish. Medium bodied. Served with apple smoked chicken and honey sriracha bbq sauce.

Tasted after a 45 minute decant. Medium ruby in colour with lovely aromas of floral, sweet red fruit & forest floor with a hint of milk chocolate. On the palate, medium bodied red fruit, raspberry/cranberry/red cherry, quite floral, hint chocolate, somewhat savoury, high acidity, low soft tannins with a long finish to clove, pepper & sour cherry. This is well crafted, beautiful Pinot Noir. And the only thing I don�t like about it : I only bought one bottle!

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for one hour. Nose of black cherry, black raspberry, anise, loamy earth and spice. Black fruit, loamy earth, black licorice and spice on the palate. Finishes with good length. Medium bodied. Served with baked tomato pie.

Previous bottle was corked... This bottle was delicious, so good...bright wonderful raspberry cherry fruit..

Translucent plum color. Nose of berries and of foliage. The wine opens with a muted cola flavor. Something of a mushroom sensation farther back on the tongue. Slight tingle suggesting citrus on the edges of the tongue. Some slate and some cinnamon. Light-to-medium bodied.

Popped and poured. Black cherry, raspberry, earth and spice aromas and flavors. Long finish. Medium bodied. Served with coq au vin.

7/29. Quality Sonoma pinot. After 35 min of air the wine was super Smooth full of soft strawberry with a lasting finish. Alcohol is completely hidden. Drank next to a bottle of twomey and i preferred the ancillary.

Agree with Frank about the herby leafy stemmy notes.... I don�t like it as much as the �15&�16 vintages.. Hoping that some more bottle time will improve it as happens with many other Mike Smith wines...for now good not great

I'll add to csimm's efforts here. I opened my bottle 48 hours ago, and it was plain just too hot for Pinot Noir on Friday, so I stuffed it back to the fridge with the cork and left it there. Much better drinking temp today, as it's 70f in my kitchen and the wine is warming from the fridge. Mike Smith 2018s & 2017s - Myriad, Quivet, Scarlett, Becklyn, and others (Saint Helena) : A healthy does of rhubarb and muddled strawberry lead the charge here, with a slight vanilla cream note on the finish. If you try hard, you�ll maybe detect a citrus element, but it plays hide-and-seek with the palate throughout the delivery.
