fun Australian red. Drank it over 2 nights immediately after delivery so take any negatives with a possible travel shock grain of salt. Really dark wine with a nose really opened up over the 2 days with berry notes. The texture on day 1 was perfection - silky and long lasting, but the flavors muted. On day 2 we lost a bit of the texture and the bitterness from the oak really came forward. I’m pumped to try my second …

Deep ruby in the glass. Clean and pronounced. Intensely sweet aromatics of ripe plum, strawberry jam, and heavy vanilla. The wine is full-bodied and round, with moderate, well-integrated tannins. It shows excellent balance between the ripe fruit and the sweetness of the American oak. The finish is long and persistent. Highly approachable and well-balanced, though it lacks the ultimate depth found in the top-tier bins.

Inky purple black. All primary fruit, dark plums and black cherrys, cassis and blackberry with hints of Cabernet leaf, all soaked in American Oak. The oak dominates for now with sweetness, vanilla & coconut in overdrive. Shiraz is domanating the Cabernet even though it's almost even parts but over time this will change. This is far far too young but was curious to see how it drank over a couple of days, it never really changed. Revisit in 10 years.

A very sweet undertones, keeps going. Fine length, sound balance, certainly quite heavy and sweet - very much the genre. #TheLavery#London#PeterGago

Penfolds Bin 389 (My place, Burwood) : Meaty, oxidised, caramel, saovury, mushroom, earthy, red berried fruit, sweet spice, biscuit, gets more beefy with time. Richer than the first tow wines in the bracket, again it's very meaty with fresh berries, mushrooms and umami notes, silky but drying tannins persists long, fruit a bit more with time. Woof. Pretty impressive.

Despite a very slight port taint when first opened, the wine opened up in the bottle over an hour or so. Full bodied with smooth rounded oak, strong dark fruits making this a great reflection of the strong 2000 vintage. Wile this will last a few years, I'm not holding any another decade.

Good, I really did not expect this to be as good. It is over its peak, but very drinkable.

Deep garnet in color; cassis, black cherries, and green peppercorns on the nose; medium plus acidity; high tannins; tastes like eucalyptus, prunes, and crushed gravel with a long finish.

Deep garnet in color; raisins, blackberries, and oak on the nose; medium minus acidity; medium tannins; tastes like black cherries, molasses, and a hint of chocolate with a long finish. Probably a little past prime, but still tasty. Jason says it's ok.

Opened and poured - dark and cense - mature and smooth, with cherry and cherry notes, Fairly broad and lush, but lacking some energy and pizazz. From its younger precocious years, this has mellowed nicely and still offers a level of quality and enjoyment.

The previous bottle had faded, but this one was up to old standards - see 11/28/2008. No more in the cellar now, so it was good to end on a high note.

I should have drunk the last two bottles 10 years ago! Still hints of its former excellence (see 11/28/08), but acidity predominates. I enjoyed it, nevertheless.

Outstanding wine. So smooth. Years left in it. Full tannins but not stringent. Love this classic icon wine.

Experienced something very different than the last five reports on this: the wine was very fresh with good tone and youthful fruit character. We had it after a disappointing 95 and remarked on how one would think there were more like ten years difference between the two vs. just five.

NobleRottersSydney - Stephen's Penfolds Bin 389 1998-07 (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney) : {cork, 13.5%} (Stephen) This was a touch musty at first; I worried about the cork. It never got worse, although the wine never entirely lost a slightly fungal character. The palate is diffuse and loose, a bit anonymously-flavoured in a generic red-wine way, with little tannin, some acid, but overall a fairly short, if dry finish. Just medium-bodied, no more. This may have benefited fruit-wise from the …

12th Anniversary wine, from a case bought at our wedding. Bricking and medium bodied, showing heavy cedar and dusty notes. Some fruit core remaining, but has turned rusty and brambly, with twigs, underbrush and tart cherry. Acids holding this up. Solid still at 15 years out!

A gift, so don't know the cellaring provenance. In short though, this bottle was past its best., as it shows distinct mouldy aromas on top of sweet cassis, spice and tobacco. On the palate, it is showing its age more, with cedar oak, chocolate, brambles and sour dark fruits. There is still a core of decent fruit here, but the balance has shifted. May have been this bottle though; while the ullage was acceptable, there was a touch of leakage …

- Garnet color. It's in total harmony and has flavours of black pepper, fig and chocolate with a medium/full body. Silky texture with a long finish - Superb. Cellaring made a huge difference.

Opened as a pre-anniversary bottle before our trip. This is holding on, yet the vibrant fruit of it's youth has faded. What is left is pleasant table wine - predominantly red cherry driven. There's some drying tannin, on a medium body showing red and black cherry, with some leather and dust.

Great nose and flavors. Some black fruit and leather/game. Neither Cab nor Shiraz dominates. Good balance of fruit and acidity have made this wine stand the test of time.

9th Anniversary bottle, of our wedding wine. PnP, very dark red to purple. Rust, dust and must on the nose, with prune and very dark berries. Neutral, fruit has faded to a dense cloak of bitter tannin, with leather, and slight tartness. Interesting combinations via a vis its youth. Decent and heavily into secondary nuance and personality.

Still has a lot of life left, hardly showing any age at all.
