Famille Carabello-Baum Chassagne-Montrachet

26022023 - 5 ⭐️ luncheon hosted by SKT with 14 bottles of wines & 2 aged cognacs. A beautiful white from bro Eddie. This bottle oozes old world’s charm - sumptuous notes lifted tropical & floral notes with a hint of caramel & tawny port at the background. The palate is rounded and almost buttery. Coats the mouth with silky and elegant umami driven finish.

Gold colour citrus flavoured. Slightly tart. Not as complex as hoped but very pleasant and a joy to drink

Grand Cru Chardonnay (The four seasons hotel, the rocks, sydney) : Crikey. I thought I'd already had some reductive wines but this is the boss...struck match and bacon fat...with agitation a little wild ferment funkiness as well on the nose. Juicy, fleshy but, flavourwise, it's wild ferment and struck match all the way. Nah.

Definitely falls in the more interesting than good category, but novelty is definitely a big part of the battle. Screaming petrol on the nose. Palate showed some tropical notes and a distinct buttered popcorn flavor. Not the most pleasant palate, but I did love the nose. Needed a little time to open up but not sure I'd wait much longer on this.

There is a dose of reduction that is slightly distracting before yielding tones of red apples, custard, Meyer lemons, white flowers, Smokey notes, and some fresh herbs. The Medium/full bodied feel is balanced and rounded with tart, high acidity. The reduction is even more noticeable on the palate than the nose and dominates. If the reduction can integrate, I can see this improving a decent bit. But until then, it’s just a bit too much for me.
