Excellent from the start, getting better with air so trying to go slow. Bright color of cherry red, subtle burgeoning nose of rose pedals, orange and lemon zest, a bit of (?) furniture polish on the end of the aroma surprisingly only with air but not unpleasant or pungent yet seems something inorganic. The best and last of the three bottles I purchased. Decanted with fine sediment. A lovely garnet color in the glass. A nose of rose petal, subtle oak and a hint of alcohol. Broad in the mouth, the wine laps across the tongue and "seeks the cheeks". Opened Christmas Eve towards end of meal at request of those who didn’t enjoy the old Bordeaux. Not fair to rate this alongside and after enjoying 78 HB but I think it’s better than when I tasted it 18 mos ago and it was pleasant to taste. Really starting to open up with tart cherry and some balsamic on the finish. Needs a bit of air to unfurl. An excellent Barolo with good QPR. Should improve with a few more …

A modest improvement on the last bottle opened, which I presumed was flawed. Brick red with slight browning on the rim. An absent nose. This bottle had thin, subdued fruit, dry in the mouth with noticeable wood and brush, and a finish marked by tannin. Made it through half the bottle with my ever-present dinner companion.

Similar impression to my last one, but a little more balanced. This is tense and red fruited after opening, but also putting on weight and structure with some more air. A success for the vintage but still several steps down from the Crus in great vintages. Still a lot of pleasure to drink this and to follow it over the next years.

I had gifted this to my dad a few years ago and wife suggested we open to give mom and dad a change of pace from old Bordeaux. Opened a couple hours and decanted before dinner of grilled filet mignon and au gratin potatoes with leak. A great entry level Barolo that is just entering early drinking window and should improve a bit over the next 5-10 years. Not hugely complex and still holding back a bit. Great with steak. …

A disappointment. Weak and vegetal. Thin. An appearance of accelerated maturation. Brown tints in the glass. One of three bottles bought on a whim at Total Wine, a store I do not frequent often. I hope this was not the result of improper storage and that I have two more flawed bottles on hand. We'll see.

My third time tasting this and it looks like it‘s coming together in bottle too. Notes of bright red fruit, but also some blue fruit, mint, pine tree, tobacco, some darker mineral tone too, but overall very bright and fresh. Tasted at a trade tasting in NYC. Maceration and fermentation for 5-8 days then aged in French oak barriques and tonneaux for 24 months. Relatively soft, weak and thin in my view another example of the terrible 2014 vintage in Barolo.

Lots of sweet fruit on the nose with an underlayment of earth. Not what I would expect from Monforte, but whom am I to question this? Medicinal, then mint, then grip on the back of the palate. Lots of grip. Tangy. Wonder where the apex of this mint / tang / earth is going to go?

This is a young Nebbiolo with an old soul, medium acidity, earthy color and tannic finish. Excellent weeknight wine as it stands, and I’d expect some upside in coming years.

Something between golden and green; a rather young looking wine. Interesting nose of cinnamon, pear, very floral with white flower notes (hibiscus?), hazelnut and honey. An intense and intensely unusual wine. 13.5% alc. With ... don’t recall, which is such a same. Recommended.

Tasted at the winery, this had not been bottled yet, but will be the final blend. Super bright, pure, red-fruited and perfumed, with notes of flowers, sweet and sour red berries, spices and amazing overall freshness. It is medium-bodied, has pretty high but ripe acidity and medium-high tannin that feels very good quality. Good length. A pure, weightless and fresh Barolo and something I am really looking forward to.
