The 62 honors the conception date of the winery. And they are shifting the style to be more modern and lighter. And that indeed is the case. A little earthy and a little smoky, although I think I am having a bad palate day. Above average in quality and value if at $24.

wonderful nose of slight pine, mint, eucalyptus, stone, with damp earth and leaves. in the mouth there's a refined sharp quality without being overly tart or drying. brings some bitter chocolate, espresso, and dark berries through the finish. great rugged old world-ness without anything overbearing.

Many years ago, in the late nineties, this was my goto wine in a supermarket when on vacation in Italy. It always delivered then as a fairly cheap and decent red for my simple holiday home cookery. I have heard this called "benchmark sangio" for the lake tris. area, so I was well chuffed to drink it while looking at said lake. My main observation of this plus other Umbrian sangio I've tried on this trip is that at best they can be surprisingly elegant, even austere. Perhaps due to moderation by the chilly lake. Colour: medium garnet, starting to get a bit watery on the edges Nose: needs some time to open up (but actually never really does). Definitely some cherry there and some spices (clove).
