Antoniotti Odilio, Bramaterra

Such a great daily drinker and I mean every ounce of that 94. This wine continues to impress and I’m sad I’m running low on the 2018. An outstanding year for Bramaterra - a much more complex and bolder year compared to the 2017 which is light and Pinot-esque. 2.5 hours later and sadly I’m on my last glass of the evening. Dark chocolate, tar, leather, and deep cherry. Outstanding.

Now, this is a fine Northern Piedmont Nebbiollo. I'm on my first glass after a one hour plus decant. Initial impression on PnP, as well as after open for a bit, are the red cherry notes jumping out of the glass. Quite noticeable and so aromatic! Now to the mouth. Loads of grippy, fine tannins and maraschino cherry stretching out across the palate. Slight menthol too. Medium plus plus finish. Will update my note later this evening . . . …

Delicious, really opens up, punching above its weight for the price, incredible value wine. Enjoyed over the course of 5 hours, with no decant. Every sip delivered a new development in terms fruit, or tertiary flavours, everything you would want from a Nebbiolo, a very well balanced wine.

Deacanted for 1 hour then enjoyed over 2 days. Prominent wild mint top note with dark savoury plum and cherry. Great acidity and very well balanced.

Popped and poured. Initially, on the nose, cherry which relatively quickly morphs into dried orange peel, pot pourri, earthy and meaty notes, a little rose petal...lovely nose. On the palate it's juicy - the acid is medium plus intensity but not dominant, savoury, the cherry and other notes are there, joined by a little salinity and fruit tea, tannins are drying but offer a pleasing texture and the flavours persist. Delicious - characteristically Nebbiolo and there is plenty of tannic structure, but it's no monolithic monster - under the savoury earthiness is plenty of clean, bright fruit to make it more than drinkable already. Similar in price to, say, a decent Langhe Nebbiolo but quite a lot more interesting than most. Good value alternative to the more delicate side of Barolo. Fine and perfumed with all the typicity that Nebbiolo shows, though perhaps just a little more youthful vibrancy. The floral notes are quite bright indeed, but the structure is there. Craving a good bowl of mushroom laced pasta.

Nice. Dried and ripe cherry with new leather floral notes mirror in nose and palate. Some tannin grip starts in the mid palate and builds a bit toward the end, but not too much. Was consistent from opening to two hours later. Drink now. Good QPR.

Another good bottle, though not as well developed as the last couple. Nose is classic nebbiolo with tar and roses. Lighter fruit flavor than last time, with cedar, spice, some good acidity and light tannins enlivening the end. I would say this peaked last year, even though it is still very nice.

Even better than last bottle. Really has matured beautifully, and I'm moving back drink date a year, since no sign of anything but goodness. light tar and violets dominant on the nose. Palate is earthy, dark, classic barolo-esque profile, with a mineral, flinty quality amidst the dark fruit. Tannins are moderate but add a good length at the end.

Has really matured and deepened. Nose is more classically nebbiolo with tar and roses dominant. Darker fruit flavor than before with cedar, spice, good acid and a definite layer of tannins at the end.

Nose a bit more closed this time, but still an enjoyable brew of violets and roses. The palate is more developed than last bottle -- flinty mineral note, light nebbiolo fruit pervading it all, some cedar -- and a still significant hit of tannic ending, but still pretty well integrated. Has finesse.

Slightly browning edges. Strong nose of dark cherries, iodine, menthol and ether. Has a thin texture even for nebbiolo but follows on with good flavors of tar, truffles and licorice. Very ripe bordering on jammy which is surprising given the cool climate. Finishes with firm, slightly rustic tannins and a nice spicy complexity. This wine has confused as some sips I like and some I don't. 88?

A notably short cork on this half bottle, but it was still in decent shape at 5 years old. The colour is claret-red with just a little bricking at the rim. Slightly smokey/fumey/cheesy, yet 'winey' nose - note OTT though, so quite fun to sniff. Light-bodied with (slightly sour) cherry to the fore and a little background vanilla. Decent length and moderately grippy tannins. Acidity keeps it fresh without sneaking onto centre stage.

Nat cork. A dull, dark but fairly clear red. Fragrant red fruit, almost sappy smelling after some air, nearly burgundian in its aroma. Originally tannic and in need of a decant, it was instantly recognizable as quality juice. Lots of tannic structure even after decant, and while a bit prickly, certainly still enjoyable. Initially red fruited but darker flavors emerged over time as well. Hint of a medicinal note too. Medium bodied but deep in flavors with a lingering finish. …

Lighter color. Nebbiolo nose of tar, roses and cherrywood. Good dark cherry fruit flavors with notes of dried cedarwood and forest floor. Lighter-bodied and a bit thin but packs a nice wallup of spicy dry tannins on the finish which makes me think this needs a good bit of age to show itself. A bit of a harsh, old-world style but it has yet to come together. 87+

Incredible nose of violets, roses. Palate is brightly fruity with a cherry component and a cedar note, and a shot of spice, with definitive smooth tannins finishing up long-ly.
