Chateau Falfas, Cotes de Bourg

Well, I opened this bottle up quicker than initially planned. Very different experience to the first bottle.. much less bitter, though similar taste. Dark red fruits and spices are much better balanced in this bottle. No need to put it in the fridge for a try the day after.. this drank very well the same evening.

Ripe dark plums, ripe blackcurrants, ripe blackberries, dried leaves, cedar, coffee grounds, tobacco and dried red chili pepper on the nose. Smells zippy, with hints of greenness and astringency throughout. Medium + intensity of aromas. Flavors are mostly consistent with the aromas. The palate adds ripe black cherries and green bell pepper. It's still driven by the dark fruit though. On opening, color is nice dark ruby. Very limited browning, which is surprising after 11 years. Taste is a tad bitter and quite dry. Given 2 hours decant in a wide bodied glass it started to open up a little reducing the dryness and bringing out more fruit. Bitterness finish still present. 1 day later (recorked and in the fridge) the fruitiness is present, but that bitterness albeit not as strong as initially the case, will not pass. Going to …

Sample tasting at work (Oinoscent) : 55% MErlot 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec Fuller and riper than the 2017, fleshier fruit, palate is is leaner than expected from the nose, acidity standing taller, angular tannins, old oak warmth, med body, med finish

Nope - natty, ‘low intervention’, some brett, volatile acidity, for me not on the ‘good side’ of the line. Hard pass.

Great right bank Bordeaux. Mostly merlot with the two cabernets and surprisingly some malbec. Superb wine, but needs time to open up to show its generous bouquet but also for its tannins. Nice secondary and tertiary aroma's. Very nice structure and has quite some live ahead 5 - 10 years at least. Punches above its weight

OK, ce n'est pas le même niveau que le GPL 2001 bu quelques jours plus tôt, mais je suis surpris par l'excellent niveau de ce cotes de bourg. Duft nach Flieder und saftiger reifer schwarzer Johannisbeere. Reife dunkle Beerenfrucht, Cassis und Brombeere. Dunkle schokolade und Mokka. Feines Holz, feines Tannin, gute Säurestruktur. Immer noch wunderbare Frucht. Präsente Säure; grüner Apfel; im Abgang ganz leichte Vanillenote. In der Nase typischer Bordeaux mit erdigen Noten. Erstaunlicher Wein nach 22 Jahren Lagerung!

Youthful on the eye. Nose is plummy, some sweetness. The palate is fresh, medium bodied, with a nice balanced finish. Lacks a little character but decent nonetheless.

Mid ruby with a vibrant blueish hue. Maybe a little on the young side but oh so alive! Bursting with slightly spangly forest fruits and pencil shavings. Rich, silky smooth and fulsome taste with loads of fruit, silky tannins, plump, concentrated and good length.
