Nose of smoke, florals, subtle berries. Med+ acids, fine tannin, silky smooth, complex black raspberry, currants, cherry, cherry pits, pine resin, smoke. Concentrated and inky but not oaky. Polished. Long finish. Very youthful today.. the crowd will find this to be slightly too angular... but try again in 5-10 years when its softer and unfurled

Houston Northern Rhone Blowout : This wine was awesome. Clearly the "youngest" on the table tonight, with still some impressions of lactate and barrel toast, but wow, what impressive blue to purple fruit, with pressed violet florals and excellent depth with supportive acidity. I loved it and wished more could be found.

Commanderie des Costes du Rhone - Xavier Gerard dinner (The University Club) : This wine needs a lot of time. It's really great - all dark and brooding and fruit and just a hint of the metallic. Still tight, but opening in the glass. Enjoyable.
