Well stored, this opened up after half an hour into something very nice. Menthol, eucalyptus, quite typical from around here, but just restrained enough. Some briairy, wood notes, mushroom, still good acidity. Drink and enjoy now with rack of lamb.

Wine Education Service - Australian Superstars (LSE) : Age. Delectable nose, sweet, black fruit, spicy. Very fruity, but not recognisable as pinot noir, medium length.

A Great Australian Pinot in the old world style, a stupid price. The first thing you notice is the color its starting to turn slightly brick red brown in the glass a bit like a nebbiolo. The bouquet smells of muted musk stick. The acid is now receding its silky smooth on the palate and the tannins are fully resolved, its prime drinking time with the finish a medium to long subtle savory, creamed mushroom and cranberry. Proof that Aussies …

An alluring, fruity nose upon opening, decanted into a riedel burgundy glass for one hour prior to drinking. In the mouth there was far less fruit, to be replaced by some funk, mushroom/forest floor flavours, and firm acidity. Full bodied for a PN and quite complex. The taste was subtle, but what there was tended to linger. Quite elegant and definitely an Old World style. Nevertheless quite overpriced and not up there with similarly priced Premier Cru Vosne Romenees (similar …

Took a while to open up. The nose wasn't very aromatic. The palate revealed typical cherries, earthiness with a hint of barnyard funk. Med bodied, acid still holding on, good length. Wasn't amazing but still decent.

Enjoyed this bottle, good weight and balance with classic PN flavours. More European in style than I was expecting.

Pinot Noir Tasting - France, NZ, Australia (G&E's, Melbourne) : Good complex, but slightly subdued nose (very slight bacon-fat after time in glass). Delicious, mushroomy, meaty. More complex, elegant and subtle than Villa Maria, but also less powerful. (92 Very good wine)

Coal Valley Winery Visits Apr 10 (Coal Valley, Tasmania) : {cork, 13.5%, A$70} Glowing garnet. Quite developed nose of wet leaves, forest floor and a touch of compost. Really very seductive. Lovely medium-bodied wine, with furry fruits, fine powdery tannins, great balance and excellent coverage of the palate - the whole tongue is engaged with this wine. Seems ready to drink now - far more so than the following vintage.

{cork, A$70} Bright garnet. Plenty happening on the nose; plums, raspberries, meats and delicatessen aromas. The palate is tight, though. Not at all expressive, although it is even. The fruit may be sullen, but firm acids, soft oak, subtle tannin, and medium length of finish all combine into a - for now - mysterious but promising package. Still, it's a lot of cash to pony up, and I've yet to taste Domaine A pinot singing at its peak (10yrs+, according …

closed on the nose (cold) developing gamey notes with an undercurrent of dark ripe plums – very rich. Classy smooth texture – very silky, warm fruit, good length and well integrated with a spicy finish. Still youn

Slightly weird nose of funky fruits and marzipan / biscuits. Not faulty but not quite right. Palate is young, tight and shows red berries but not much else (at the moment). Time will be this wine's friend.
