This was our first carménère. The aromatics began, for Jessie, with red and black fruit - plum for sure, maybe some others that I can't properly name. Max, however, felt pepper was dominant. On the palate, Max said the opening was not very special - a basic red wine sort of feel - but that it develops, mellowing and warming into something rather interesting. Jessie noted some raspberry. It was acid over tannin on the finish, but not too much …

Stunning: decanted for 2 hours. Showing very little bottle age- dark purple to the edge. Last time we tasted this it was an utter guerilla of a bottle. Now an elegant bottle of wine. Tannins mellow, cassis on the nose. Big fruity mouthful with blackcurrant and damsons and hits of lavender. Great length.

Probably the best introduction to Chilean Carmenere for an international wine drinker. It has standard Carmenere green notes but mostly in a savoury dried herbal way with a touch of menthol and dark berry fruit. The herbs are never too much but it makes it distinctly Carmenere. It’s certainly easy to drink and international in style on the palate with dark fruit notes, but it still remains cool and has just enough acidity. It also remains light on its feet …

On the nose, stones, blackberry & bramble. On the palate, green pepper with smooth tannins & medium acidity. Pleasant enough carmenere at this price.

Slightly smoky and floral notes on the nose. Smoky, earthy, mineral notes like slate, with a hint of jalapeño on the palate with polished tannins. Tasting almost a hint of volcanic soil influence, much like a Sicilian wine. Tannins are slightly grippy on the finish

Lots of mineral to the nose. Very stoney. Last night someone called out bell pepper for this wine, but I’m not finding that on the nose or the palate. No tannin on the palate. ‘Soy sauce’ is noted on the nose. Mole, Curry and BBQ to pair with Carmenere. 10m oak, no new, 2nd pass French.

Dark fruits, cassis blackberry black cherry, bit of oak on the nose. Medium dark in color. On the palate, subtle dark fruit at the front, followed by spike in acidity, soft tannins - long finish. Well integrated, balanced. Enjoyed this one

Medium dark red. Sweet red fruit and oak in the nose. Nice red fruit flavours with some oak in the background. Nice wine but lacking in acid.

Sweet, new world fruit with lavish oak treatment. Nicely mature, not many tannins left. Drink up.

Lovely color and Brillo. Nose of dark fruits, mushrooms and wet earth. This is one of my favorite wines of South America. Finishes with mouth coating tannins, very fleshy almost chewy with dark fruits. A very well made wine. The only downside I can see here is price. With a price tag of 65-70 dollars might be pushing a bit. It would be an excellent wine for 45-50 bucks.

Don Maximiano 2004 / 91 Points (Parker) The Founder’s Reserve – Don Maximiano Series wines are Bordeaux-style blends made up of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2004 Founder’s Reserve is slightly lighter in color than the 2003 and offers more elegance. It is already quite eamless and ready to drink. It has enough to stuffing to provide pleasure through 2020.

South American and American Wines; 12/6/2009-12/7/2009 (Wine Gallery) : Nicely integrated wine. A little of everything - spices, berries, touch of mint. Lifted nose with cool cedar oak. Controlled black cherries with some tobacco and cloves. Needs more time but definitely with potential.

Drank it about a month ago and no specific note taken. I can recall that it was very dark, almost black. The nose and palate was dominated by cremé de cassis and oak. Full boided, good structure and tannins. Quite one dimensional but certainly a very enjoyable wine. Paired fantastic with a good old barbeque steak.

Fairly intense wine with a unmistakeable Chilean taset. Extremely deep colour. Somewhat spearminty nose with some cedary, stewed cherry-plum fruit. Dry, full bodied, ripe plum and juicy, black cherry flavours with a cedary finish. A little "new world" for my taste but a very nice wine.

Dark, bold, thick. Excellent with rich meats. Finally a S. American wine that doesn't have that chemical aftertaste!

Aromatic, cassis, pepper, leather, and toast with a hint of earth on the nose. Dry and ripe with firm, gripping tannins; long, well-balanced finish. 4.5/5

Excelente . 91+pts.
