Pretty tannic even for tannat. Probably past its prime. Definitely needed a decant with lots of sediment

A very drinkable Madiran. This wine holds a special role in my celllar as a "recovery wine" to drink after a very good (and expensive) bottle of wine. Most inexpensive wines taste terrible after a stellar one, but this one holds up. Way cheaper than breaking out a second bottle of great wine.

Wow, I think half the tannins in France are in this one bottle of wine, what a bruiser! Lots of fruit, too, though, so maybe it's got the stuffing to age. Good acidity, too, especially for 2003. Might have to pick up another bottle or two to see what it does in the future. Certainly good wine for the price.

Purple, almost pitch colour. Dark aromas of prunes, blackberries, cocoa and coffe (roasting) with animal and earthy notes. Highly tannic, strong acidity but well balanced by deep fruit concentration. Very good.
