A private dinner (Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL) : Very tight, feels underripe, cranberries, red currants, drying bitters, lacks charm. Is it just this bottle?

Let's try this young, 100% Syrah wine from 2018 vintage, that, according WA Vintage Guide was extraordinary one and wines from it are ready to drink. 🕣⏰🕐 90 minutes in decanter. First of all - it seems, that I am one of the lucky few who have the opportunity to drink this wine, because according to the producer, only about 2000 bottles of this wine were produced. I will add right away - excellent wine! Fresh, vigorous, full of red …

Delicious bottle of St. Joseph. Might be in a slightly awkward spot at the moment but the quality is there. Blackberry, licorice, rosemary and tart purple olive. Let it rest another 5.

Appealing bouquet and taste profile, with considerable power and grit for Saint Joseph at this price point. Drinking well now and unlikely to improve, but it should last for a few years. 90-91.

Elegant cote rotie-like saint joseph. Taste ready now. A bit broad and smoky. Taste ecological. No outstanding complexity but very enjoyable

Drank over two nights. At first the wine was a little too extracted cherry with a hint of medicine. However came together nicely on the second night. Some dark cherry and a bit of cherry pit bitterness. Lush and a little simple but will hold for a couple more years or can be drunk now

This bottle not as gratifying as the last one. . .quite dry and a bit obdurate over three days with not much fruit detectable.

Cork sound and barely stained. Deep red, fresh appearance. Intriguing savory and smoky aromas. Fresh tasting, smooth mouth feel, subdued fruit, non-intrusive tannins. Not complex or powerful, just enjoyable.

This bottle showed well -- still going strong. Impressive fruit braced with good acidity and assertive but not aggressive tannins. This style was certainly in our sweet spot.

Barely tinged cork, extracted with little effort. Quite purple. A bit of funkiness on the nose, quickly gone and replaced by savory aromas. Soft fruit, somewhat grippy tannins, good acidity, some heat on the medium long finish. Nice bottle.

Lovely wine and exceeded my expectations. A bit of smoke and touch of hay on the nose. Good fruit up front - but not jammy - good tannins and a moderately long finish. This could go maybe a few more years but it is drinking very well. I have 3 more bottles and will plan a dinner around them. We started the evening with a 1994 Cote Rotie, and finished with this '06 Ste Joseph; most people chose the Ste …

Deep garnet. Ripe nose of blackberries and tar,the palate is a little leaner, spicy black and blue fruits with some nice stones and no apparent oak. The finish is pleasantly tart and long, this is a really nice northern Rhone syrah.

This is in its sweet spot and drinking really well right now. meaty and dusty mineral notes on the nose. Medium body, smooth texture, fine grained tannins, wonderfully balanced and fresh acidity and with fully integrated oak. Lots of mineral on the palate, crushed stone, meat juice, dark cherries and white pepper. Great qpr.

I kept on going back and forth between Crozes Alberic Bouvet and the Saint Joseph Andre Pealat - this one is significantly more expensive. Both very well made wines. The Alberic shows more animal and game, but isn't rustic or hard edged, just wonderfully smoking and with great depth. The Andre is even deeper, tending towards the fruitier spectrum of syrah (bearing in mind that this is the northern rhone and not Barossa). Or, to put the style another way, …

Very savory, distinctive hint of meat. Somewhat tight, slightly becoming more open over the second day open. Interesting, but not the most dynamic St. Joseph.

Martine's Wines Portfolio tasting (MK, Chicago IL) : nose: pungent and savory nose of charcol, black cherries, smoke, and a dash of pepper. Very enjoyable with good depth taste: lush medium/full feel with good medium tannins that give way to tones of black cherries, pepper, and smoke tones. Excellent depth, though lacking a bit in complexity overall: delicious. Great savory flavors that just balance well together and work great
