Bright straw and on the nose an interesting mix of slightly oxidised fruits, some oak, nutty and dried fruit flavors and lanoline, on the palate then surprisingly fresh, good length and complexity. Interesting and challenging wine but not yummy.

This was quite recognizable, as white Bordeaux but not exactly. Nutty, oxidative, cream, some cooked fruits, lemon, medium-low acidity.

[Tasted blind] I think I called white Rioja, but not sure anymore. Medium+ intensity on the nose with bee wax, smoke, pear, white flowers, linoleum. Medium(-?) acidity, medium+ finish. I was a bit disappointed, had expected a bit more. The acidity was a let down

Blend of Obaideh and Merwah (unknown grapes to me), aged on the lees in new French oak barrels for 9 months. Very complex, very intense, very layered, round and oily texture. Unlike anything I've tasted before. Don't drink this too cold, 15°C is perfect. Medium+ intense aromas of white peach, mandarin, baked banana, lemon peel, blossom, vanilla, almond, marzipan, mint, green pepper, wet stone, flint. Dry wine, medium+ acidity, full body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. €39,80 @ Start2Taste

A mineral like entry showing a little bite, revealing stone fruit coated with butter. A little Rhone-like the finish was lingering and impressive. I liked the structure and balance. CHP 89 pts

Haven’t been terribly impressed by this youngish Musar in the past but maybe it just needed time to assert itself. This is a bit like a Gravonia with a balance of fresh fruit and oxidation. But without perhaps the same tannic presence (likely doesn’t see anywhere near the same amount of oak). Not too bad now, but I might not buy again. Hear it gets very good when it is very old though. But that’s like a 20-30 years horizon …

(17-/20) Had this same vintage some years ago already. It came by in a tasting again last week. Beautiful blend of Obaideh and Merwah, local varieties in Lebanon. Slightly oxi aromas, oily texture, great wine! Medium+ intense aromas of honeysuckle, lemon zest, orange, white peach, baked banana, mint, white pepper, wet stone, flint, vanilla, almond. Dry wine, medium+ acidity, medium body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 12% ABV - Lebanon tasting @ JdW

Flight tasting at Terroir in Tribeca. Marc Hochar as guest somm. Compared 2017 and 2012 blancs. On the nose this is almost poopy. On the palate, candy. Jolly rancher. Overall less balanced and less interesting than the 2017.

Small glass at Terroir NYC. Served at room temperature, which is surprising but maybe not the worst thing for something like this. Warm nuts, caramel, and yes, nail polish remover, rubber tire, and gasoline on the nose. Strange for something that looks so youthful, but basically expected for Musar. More fruit on the palate, lemon pith, apricot, and again caramel and nuts as well. Sort of a wooly thing too, with quite sharp acid to boot. A fun ride, but …

Pale yellow colour. Delightfully complex and in a slightly oxidative direction without this being dominant. It smells like apricots, nutmeg, walnuts, yellow apples, quince, oak, old wood, salt and glue. It tastes aged fruit of apricot, apples and plums. Dry. Medium acidity. Long.

This is an intriguing, complex wine, though I am not sure whether I like it. It's hard to get past the initial aromas of gasoline. Fortunately the gasoline doesn't show up among the flavors, which do include walnuts, honey, chicken liver, and olive oil. The wine starts more obviously oxidative, but becomes more acidic with air -- after three hours, there is a strong grapefruit-rind flavor in the aftertaste. Overall, it most closely resembles a white Rhone, but really there …

Friday Night with Salmon, Potatoes and X-Files; 5/19/2023-5/20/2023 (At home in leafy West London) : Spiky - a hint of mouldy walnut to it. Imagine it just needs time.

Oxidative style white with modest nose, a touch of Penicillium with notes of dried stone fruit and a dry, balanced finished. Quite addictive. A dry, less decadent alternative to Sauternes.

Two years from my last note and another impressive showing. Rhônish in style if not varietals, complex herb and spice mix in a white aromatic fruit melange. Hints of oak, somewhat viscous slightly malo feel, nonetheless well balanced by clean minerality and unobtrusive citrusy acidity. I suspect an evolutionary wine probably good for 20yrs from vintage - but whether further improvement will only be answered by patience/restraint. Good now and till 2032. 91?+

Made from a blend of 60% Obaideh and 40% Merwah which are ancestors of Chardonnay and Semillon grown at altitude of 1200 meters. Aged partly in stainless steel and new FR oak for 9 months and 7 years in bottle. Medium golden colour. Fragrant and rich aroma apples, almonds, peaches, apricots, honey, acacia and lemon peel hints. Palate is fresh and soft with silky and creamy texture, fragrant fruitiness echoes notes of aroma, touch of oak and vanilla with delicate …

Love the texture of this wine. Feels both rich and light at the same time. Initially had floral hints that popped in on the mid palate but those disappeared after a few hours.

R. López de Heredia Tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany) : Glass: Zalto Universal Tasted blind. Popped and poured. Clear, deep golden color. Nose with some oxidative nose, roasted nuts and acacia. Not as complex as the preceding Gravonia. On the palate lean, fine, elegant and precise. More oxidative than the preceding Gravonia and lacking its depth, tension and complexity. Medium length. Probably it needs more time? 89-90

Brought by Brian. Pop n pour. About 1h after opening. Lovely nose of apples, sea spray, herbs, nuts and pears. Palate with apples, a bit of beeswax, unripe pears, minerals, a bit of walnut skins. Medium body with nice acids. Nice complexity with depth but still seems to be holding something back. I think there is more complexity to come with some further aging.

Top lebanon white blend. Obaideh (the local variety of Chardonnay) and Merwah. 7 years bottle aging on the domain. Partly wood aging. Nutty, exotic, intense, dry, slightly oxidative in the aftertaste. Very special and excellent quality. I understand the association many have with a ripe white bordeaux or rioja Delicious!

Made with Obaideh (60%) and Merwah (40%) grapes sourced from ungrafted, low-yielding vineyards that are 50 to 90 years old, located at the altitude of 1,200 meters (4,000 feet) above sea level. The vintage 2012 in Beqaa began cool and snowy, followed by a rainy April, a promising May and a hot summer, starting with a hot June and a heatwave in July. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 9 months in a combination of new …
