Verget Chablis 1er Cru Les Fourneaux

An unbelieveable opportunity came up to try this bottle of Verget Chablis 1er Cru Les Fourneaux 2002. Opening and tasting this was a complete thriller and discovery for me. I've heard about Verget but didn't know they were a negociant company (founded by Belgian native Jean-Marie Guffens who relocated to the Maconnais region in Southern Burgundy). Delicious aged chablis, slightly oxidized fades with time. Mellow tartness, rich flavors, long finish. A bit past its prime, still lovely.

Belle robe limpide, très claire, sans aucune trace de ses 10 ans. Le nez est malheureusement inexistant malgré deux heures d'aération; il finira par s'exprimer après 2 heures supplémentaires sur des notes de coquilles d'huître assez marquées. La bouche quant à elle ets très belle, extrêmement nette; tendue avec une acidité qui soutient bien le vin, un gras très bien intégré et une belle longueur. Pas de note miéllée à ce stade.

Slight bit of oxidation, but a good wine. Color was a bit yellow/orange. Had two bottles on consecutive days out of curiousity. Second bottle did not show any oxidation, but flavors were the same.
