First tasted in June 2024, this second bottle confirms all the good things I thought about this wine. Nose of faded rose and truffle. The palate is just as expressive and elegant as in 2024, with a Burgundian character, as refined as the Arborina terroir can be, without denying the Nebbiolo origins with this truffle and undergrowth that blends so well with the rose. Altare is one of my favorite estates in Barolo because it combines elegance, finesse, and depth. …

Decanted for 1 hour before harvest lunch with marinated flank steak, opened w fig/fofrest floor. Tannins not at the front for most of the meal, towards the end, more pronounced. Drinking well now, I'm holding my last bottle for at least a couple more years to see where it ends up.

Nose of dried rose, truffle, undergrowth and plum. It's fragrant. Elegant mouth, with expressive juice, similar to the nose. Faded rose, truffle and undergrowth alternately dominate. It’s elegant, both powdery but with an undeniable presence. The acidity drives the wine lively although it is dense. Very expressive with a beautiful length combined with great depth. Absolutely an extraordinary bottle! Layers of complex Nebbiolo cherrie fruit and tones of black olives, mocha and chocolate. Great balance, secondary notes of truffle and mushroom. Magnificent long finish. Right on spot now, but should last for another 10 years. 96+

Wow what a monster this is developing into. Decanted about 6 hours. And still very closed and concentrated. Lots of soft tannins, good acidity. Acetone, black berries, cherries and lots of concentrated spices in a dark melange. Long aftertaste and nowhere near it's potential. I'll see if I can keep my hands off my last '04

En riktigt trevlig kväll med 21 vingårdsspecifika Barolos alla från årgång 2004. Väldigt lärorikt med klar skillnad mellan kommuner och lägen. Söt mogen röd frukt, rosor, tjära, lakrits, lite rökiga toner och aceton. Väldigt balanserat och fint vin där syran och tanninerna möter och den lite söta mogna frukten. Väldigt bra längd.

Nose: Generous, complex and deep nose with lots of strawberries, cherries, tar and paint. Taste: Very balanced in the mouth. Again lots of fruit and some hints of sweetness. Finish: The finish has some slight hints of bitterness. Summary: This is a very generous wine with a fantastic nose and fruity taste. I was hoping for a better finish.
