I've had 3 bottles of this in the last 4 months and they've all been outstanding. Still some fine tannins left, lots of forrest floor and green bell pepper notes. Fruit is smooth. To me this is distinctly old Napa cab and it's drinking great right now.

I guess the numbers are irrelevant, however, I find it interesting that so many of the scores seem to match what score was given by the Wine advocate. This wine is terrific and a perfect example of how California never has a bad vintage. Tasted from a magnum, and this wine is terrific. Showing lots of dark fruit, tobacco, green bell pepper with a long plush finish. 24 years in and this wine is still looking at many years ahead …

Just past peak, a bit of funk that went away after a couple hours. The tannins are nice w good acid but the overall balance tilts fruity and big. Classic Napa I guess

Slightly oily ‘sheen’ on the dark, clear colour. Nose has some bell peppers and secondary hints of leather. Fine, integrated palate. Not fading yet but lacking a little interest. Decent finish

Bei weitem noch nicht alt, schöner knapper Caban Style, sehr gut, aber nicht wirklich groß, dafür fehlt der letzte Druck.

Smoothed tannins. Fruit core intact with a noticeable amount of mushroom, earthy tones and a bit of balsamic. Cork was absolutely perfect - didn’t need a Durand. Great to share and a slower drinker given the complexities in the glass. Good stuff.

Kids BBQ party at Normanton. From magnum. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tobacco leaf, ripe bell peppers, blackcurrant, dark red cherries. Developed. On the palate, dry, mellowed medium acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.1%), fine integrated tannins, plush full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of pencil lead, ripe bell peppers, dark red cherries, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf. Long plush finish. Good quality. Well aged. Could almost pass …

Still evolving and getting better. Acidity with silky tannins and still presenting a meaningful amount of fruit at 22 years of age. My last bottle.

Deep purple color, some sediment in the bottle, smooth, red fruit with a hint of tannin on the tongue. Cork split in two when removing, double decant using a Vinturi, waited about two hours before drinking.

Removed from the cellar and warmed. Cork perfect. Needed to open up - other tasters were spot on there. Wow, what an ethereal wine.....this is what I love about these vintage Napa cabs...just singing. Full bodied, purple to red....licorice, cedar, leather, dusty notes, menthol/eucalyptus, lush deep dense fruit - blues and blacks. What an amazing wine for a challenging vintage...wish I had more. Day two under vac-u-vin - a deep lagoon of flavors - humidity, vanilla, cherry - more brightness, …

Consistent with previous TN. 30-45 minutes of air did this bottle wonders. Full of black licorice and herbs with still a touch of tannin packed menthol. Surprisingly fresh on the palate, but starting to brown at the rim.

The cork was solid and came out whole. 20-30 minute decant and the wine was SPECTACULAR! Cigar box, dried fruit and a hint of menthol on the nose. Still had tannins and fresh red fruit on the palate. Slight browning around the edge showing it's age.

Cellared since release. Exceeded expectations for a 19 yr old $20 bottle. Plenty of dark fruits with leather and tobacco notes. Purchased every year as a cellar defender up until the 13 vintage. A very enjoyable finish to a nice evening.

The fill was into the neck and the cork was sound; decanted about 30 minutes prior to service. A deep garnet core, with some hints of bricking. Notes of dried plums, cigar box, leather, and hints of black truffle. Medium bodied, with a bit less opulence on the mid-palate compared to more recent vintages, but good balance, depth and focus. This greatly exceeded my expectations, and was significantly better than bottles we consumed nearly 10 years ago!

Deep, dark color with absolutely no bricking. Some tobacco and vanilla on the nose, smooth, sweet cherry and fruit overtones and slight tannin on the taste. Sediment in the bottle, wine as indicated on the bottle notes was unfiltered. A classy bottle of wine, perfect for our first dinner of the New Year.

Held up well. Deep garnet, no bricking. Light florals and dark fruits on the nose. Flavor palate carries plum, sour cherry, and some baking spice into a medium finish. Tannins still holding on through the finish. Solid, but not remarkable. A good accompaniment for grilled steak. Day 2 - Improved... Nose picked up some licorice and lavender notes, Licorice carried into the mid-palate. Overall, softened out. Tartness subsided, tannins softened. Might add a point based on Day 2.

Stong nose with some secondary notes. Dark fruit. on the palate, fruit starting to fade, and strong tannins. Somewhat out of balance, but still a nice wine. Long strong finish. Based on tannins, a long life ahead. Based on fruit, not so much. Had a 3-4 hour slow O in the cellar, but opened dramaticaly in the glass. I'd recommend a long decant instead.

For a modest wine from an unheralded vintage, this was a pleasant surprise. Allowed to breathe in glass 30 minutes before tasting. Clear dark garnet. Aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, green tobacco, meat juice, stony soil. Fresh, balanced, mellow. Thought this would be nothing more than cooking wine at this point, but this paired well with coq au vin and with grilled lamb chops. Showed best on the third day under vacuum stopper.

Old & Rare CA Cabs: Smokey with a hint of bell pepper and tobacco; red currant, minty-green aspect and soft leather, soft tannins, a touch of spice in the end, but low tannins/structure. Easy to drink now, nice flavors, pleasant and well made, but probably at its peak. 89-90

80% oak and 20% blackcurrant - not a lot of complexity but reasonably appealing if you're a sucker for oodles of French oak (like me). Good acidic backbone, some lingering tannins and will probably continue to drink well for 5 years or more. Tried not to let the fact that the local wine seller palmed this off on me at a Reserve price affect my assessment! Note: Day 2 this wine had integrated the oak and fruit to become a …

My last bottle....wish I had more. Very nice subtle but complex nose. Dark ruby color. Tea, blackberry, mushroom, chocolate, vanilla and mint in the nose and on the palate. Great at about 90 minutes after decanting. This probably has a few years left at this level if cellared properly as it has just a little tannin left. A pleasure to drink.

Mid-neck fill. Allowed to breathe in glass 60 minutes before tasting. Clear dark blood-garnet color. Unpleasant aromas of stewed prunes, shoe polish, and Band-Aid. Bouquet improved slightly with time, but never became enjoyable during three days of tasting. Fortunately it tasted better than it smelled. Possibly heat-damaged, which is my own fault and which means I now have five more bottles of cooking wine.

Happy B-day wine. PnP with lasagna. Light bodied medium red to pink. Some barny vegetal notes upon open that blew off a bit. Lean, austere profile of watery cherry, green notes, oak, very slight cedar. Thin on the attack and mid, with a smooth oak and dark fruit dominated finish. Some tart cherry. Mediocre showing in a poor vintage - lacking depth, structure or complexity. Decent $20 table wine having said all that though. Have the 2000 Reserve and will …

This was nice, rewarding the time in the cellar - medium ruby w just slight bricking at the rim - nose is very savoury/spicy/umami with a very subtle toasted oak overlay - palate is bright red fruit, really well balanced, seamless - just a tad dried out, and not all that complex - nice, but the '00 Clos du Val tops it.

Wonderful nose when first opened that faded somewhat after about an hour, still good but not as powerful. Clear bouquet of plum, chocolate, cherry-cola, oak/vanilla and cedar in a very luscious scent. Labeled as Cabernet Sauvignon it seems to me to have some Cab Franc in it. Flavors were pretty much the same as the nose. The initial taste was fairly tannic but the fruit was right behind with the mid-palate dominated by the cherry-cola and the aftertaste dominated by …

Some American Cabs at Roger's (Roger's House) : This was fine, and eleven years later shows that all the talk about 2000 being such a bad vintage was rubbish. This isn't even the flagship wine, and it's showing well at 10+ years, and that doesn't happen in bad vintages. However, there's nothing amazing about this either. It's one chance with all these wonderfully aged wine was to show some exuberant fruit, and that wasn't happening, and it wasn't in great …
