Still had some legs, nice savory notes, a whiff of brett/barnyard, but only a whiff, lovely varietal notes. Don't think it has a decade left, but was very enjoyable right now.

Still not a blockbuster, but more complex and longer on the palate than the 2/8/12 bottle. Drink up!

Lots of earth and barnyard. Very little fruit left, but still enjoyable.

Excellent Côte-Rôtie. Dark, fruity and quite earthy on the palate. Very long and good complexity. I would say, that this had it’s peak and just started a slow descend.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #021: Northern Rhône red (By JWS) : Beautiful and perfumed bouquet with red berries, earth, leather as well as some oak and barnyard impressions. On the palate oak, a lot of chocolate, herbs, red bell pepper, leather, coffee, a bit rustic, good acidity, slightly sticky tannin. Good complexity and some elegance. Nice wine in its maturity stage now.

Cassoulet with (mostly) Cote-Rotie&Hermitage (Jordan's, Northbrook IL) : Nose: The nose is aromatic and classic with black pepper, bacon fat, smoke, violets, earth tones, black cherries, and raspberries. There is excellent balance and depth with everything being wide open for business. Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure still has some youth to it, but it has principally receded into more of a supporting role. The feel is silky and refined with black pepper, bacon fat, …

Wine is bright. Ruby color, strawberry hue (pinot colored). Slightly reductive nose of barn funk, petrol, bacon, black olives, tar and darker fruits. Med body, med finish. Soft mouth feel, a bit thin. Nicely balanced. Elegant in the style, maybe too much so, was hoping for bigger, funkier, more complex for CR. Red and black berries, Olive tapenade, bacon fat, earth, tobacco, tar, mild funk.

Had this in the half-bottle size. Very nice berry aroma followed by a mid-weight palate profile of berries and spices. At it's maturity peak now.

Third bottle of five, and very consistent. Tasty mature syrah, solid but not flamboyant.

Very farmyard nose (cow dung) with gentle, ripe and developed blackberry fruit. Resolved in the mouth with a supple and lingering finish. Not hugely complex but very easy to drink and enjoy. Has a sense of transparency that I appreciated.

Classic Rostaing and CR. Lots of aromas of olives, green herbs, bacon and animal notes. Fully open. Balanced palate with medium body and good grip.

We enjoyed this very much with sirloin steak and truffle egg pasta. I agree it seems now fully mature.

This wine has been aging poorly. No exception here. Odd herbal nose and not a lot of pleasure. (83)

It's an 04, no mistaking that. Large meniscus fading far outside of the rim. Kumquat, seared browned beef, volatile and pointed on the nose with a metallic character. Some sweetness and allusions to leather on the accumulated finish. There's just enough sweet leather aroma on the palate to offset the VA and occasional pyrazines that pop up to keep this doable. Metallic VA and pyrazine aroma grows with airtime--drink up I'd think! As judging from this bottle it's best in …

Really enjoyed this wine. Wonderful phenolic smell emanates from the bottle on opening. Smokey bacon (2,6-dmethoxyphenol) and cedar smells are potent, but elegant and a refreshing break from the flabby fruit forward wines made in the US. Medium bodied cherry fruit with pleasant acidity. Nicely balanced wine that I will instantly buy if I come across again. My first experience with Cote-Rotie. I'll be looking for more.

Looks like a burgundy. Lightweight body and short persistence. Pleasant, but passed the peak.

Light ruby. Strong, herbal nose that sports notes of warm earth and red fruits. I see what one cellartracker means when he says a Loire Cabernet franc style of Cote Rotie. Medium bodied and distinctly herbaceous - there is warm earthy fruit as well. Interesting, and in fact, I like it - but needs richly fatty food to be at its best. (89)

Ooo yeah, this is my kind of nose. This is a Loire cab franc lover's Cote-Rotie. There's barnyard here, but it's super pretty, and coffee, and not-thoroughly-ripe root-flavor, leather, really deep fruit. So layered. I could lose myself in this nose for hours. Palate is starting to resolve but still has 5+ years of serious enjoyment in it.

Needs to breath 15 minutes; best results in the following 30 min. Fully mature. Medium long finish but not as deep or intense as I hoped. Some bitter notes; I suspect it is beginning to fade. Drink NOW. 88-89

Very open nose straight from bottle. Good time to drink these now. 5th bottle of a case, and the best so far. Light, transparant colour. Classis thyme, blood and fur on the nose. Medium body with soft tannins, and a clean medium long finish.

Finally this one has opened up fully and is bursting with thyme, grass, game, fur and other goodies. Very classic northern rhone and less burgundian than Rostaing Classique normally is. Very easy to drink with soft melting tannins. Not immensly long but really tasty and refreshing served a bit cold. Holds up fine during two days.

Mature ruby color. Slightly herbaceous nose that is mixed with warm earth and a touch of red meat. Elegant wine that is just a touch under ripe. There are some nice elements here as the fruit is really pure. Lingers on the palate. Good if not great - I will drink this soon as it won't get better. (89)

Resembles a burgundy wine. Color relatively light. Simple aromas. On the palate, good acidity (gastronomic wine) and fruity. Very pleasing.

Had it blind and thought it was a Burgundy with too much tannins. Very elegant, but since it had not been decanted, the typical thyme, bacon and meat aromas had not unfolded yet. Long life ahead.
