2025-04 KoB #221 St Aubin and Volnay at Estelle (Estelle in Northcote) : Tasted blind. Prominent oak. Richer and dark cherry, cola and plums. Very perfumed. Turns a little more red fruited over time. 93.

No notes. Before Larry David. Had side by side with the 2014 Tour Vougeut and these were polar opposites but both fun in their own right. More voluptuous, bigger body, deep and concentrated. Needs more time but well made not too hot 2018.

(Blind tasting) Full and deep nose. Very dense. Raspberry and hints of black fruit. Petit-fruits-rouges. Spice and flowers. But also elegant. Still youthful. Medium-fullish, dense, concentrated palate. Red and black fruit and spicy liquorice. Structure and softness. Freshness. Lovely, lovely silky tannins. Very long. A splendid example of polished winemaking! And able to keep elegance in this hot vintage. Lovely now, even more lovely in 3-5 years.

Frisch, fruchtig. Gut balancierte Säure. Könnte vielleicht etwas opulenter sein.

Voluptuous, rich, round, elegant and pretty, with bright acidity. Showing great right now, really expressive and tasty at the moment.

Light body - lighter than the other D’Angerville 1ers for sure, including the non-climat specific 1er. But very nice fruit, balance and complexity. Only knock is could use more depth. Dark spicey fruit, raspberry and currant with a hint of blueberry. Nice finish.

Corney & Barrow - Domaine Leflaive and Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Dinner (Clos Pasoh) : Medium ruby. Expressive nose of ripe redcurrant and violets, and dill, thyme, basil, and a hint of nutmeg. Bright acids, and big floral flavours as well as savoury herbs and spices. Fairly lengthy. Nice!

Amazingly, the 93 d'Angerville Fremiets doesn't really seem ready. A big nose with red and black cherry alongside freshly dug earth. Still a fair amount of grip in the mouth. The Champans is articulate and complex already, but the Fremiets just isn't there yet (not that I expect it to rise to the level of the Champans).

I don't know what Dville did in 19 but it's magic. Crushes the 18s. Picked up lot more and psyched.

Earthy, mushrooms, black tea, but hardly any fruit left. Fine acidity freshens it up and low tannins makes is smooth. The wine is technically fine so it is a matter of preference - but my preference is to have a bit of red fruit expression in my burgundy wines.

In a span of 3 hours this went from angular to full on beast mode. Very expressive and probably the best D'ang Fremiets I've ever had. Delicate but packed in dark fruit and perfume. Extra dimension of flavor. Finish forever. If this is representative of D'ang 19s I will be happy. I put in a decanter and it really needed the air.

This is a baby, but has good potential; had at a restaurant and it paired pretty well with venison loin; the nose was reticent at first then slowly opened to ripe plum, black cherry, even cassis I think; violet and some damp earthy notes, but mostly just vibrant ripe fruits; the palate was also initially quite coiled, slowly opened to show the fruits richness and despite being definitely ripe in alignment with the vintage there was reasonable freshness to the …

A fully mature bottle without showing aging. Wonderful floral aroma and the taste of good mature bourgogne. No wonder this domain is the best in Volnay.

Extremely youthful and primary with bright red cherry fruit, almost candied, with subtle chalkiness and a light clean finish. Will wait 5-10 years before trying again.

Mostly DRC lazy Sunday lunch (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA) : Youthful expressive nose displaying ripe black and red fruit, blackberry jam, stewed raspberry, grilled meat, rose, dark spices and earth. Excellent concentration, ripe black fruit and earth driven palate impression, medium acidity and mineral and a medium to long dark fruit and earth driven finish. Still needs another five to ten years as sous bois has not emerged and feels a bit tight and coiled.

Light garnet. Nose of red fruit with a subtle gamy, earthy, animalic touch to it. Elegant and aromatic palate, light bodied. Good finish. Lighter than the Champans and the Caillerets.

Wow, this is great. Lovely dark and red fruit palate. The tannins are breaking down. Lovely red fruit. Nice elegance here. I'm not a huge d'Angerville fan (I know, I seem to be in the minority on this), but this was impressive. Milling Room with GdP, David S and Dan T.

Drank in London We looked at our glasses and this wine was very cloudy, oh dear. Then we gave it a smell, WOW, beautiful notes of raspberries, strawberries, flowers and earth. This was a real beauty. Luckily we did not decant as it started to fade after about an hour in the open. Wonderful stuff, don't get put off by the cloudiness.

Excellent Volnay showing. Paired with fried Thai lobster and french fries (the kids). Strong mineral notes, mid palate blanketed with cherry liquor flavours. hitting perfect stride now. typical volnay tannins dissipated and complexity becomes apparent.

Crunchy, youthful. Bright strawberry / cranberry fruit and quite dusty and mineral, but seems to be a little light in concentration. More time is needed. A good but not great bottle tonight.

Opens bright and crunchy and quite austere. With several hours air it really opens to bright, snappy red fruit with great sappy intensity. Floral and dusty stone notes overlay. Exquisitely detailed. Not at the complexity levels of the Ducs or other 1ers but no less enjoyable. Very youthful as well, 10 years or more in the tank easily.

A light colored, crisp, light, but firm style of pinot which is aromatically restrained, and minerally. More for the Burgundy nerd this wine is near its peak though has the depth of flavor and acidity to age another 5-7 years. Quality wise fantastic balance between ripeness of fruit and firm acids, mild tannins, very good length, good intensity of red fruits, flowers, and minerals, ok to good complexity, fantastic finesse, and perfect expression of place.

From 20 to 25-year-old vines. Decanted for one hour during which time it put on more substance and weight. Medium ruby colour with a pretty bouquet. Medium-bodied with fresh red fruit, mineral and spice flavours. This is an elegant and finely structured wine, and more in harmony than a bottle I had a couple of years ago. There is good complexity, but a slightly hollow finish. Had alongside a Jean Boillot Fremiets from the same year which was more complete. …

Burgundy Night at Martin and Joyce's (The Serenade) : Started a bit slow, but really opened up with time, so that it was a rather nice wine by the time we finished the last of the bottle. I actually thought this was just a better than the 1996 D'Angerville Clos des Ducs on the night. Very tight on the nose - some meaty sausages and ham, along with spice and winter melon, slowly unfolding into cherry notes. Same meaty ham …
