Giribaldi, Barolo

Slow oxed for 8 hours then into a decanter. Nose is much better that the pallet. A bit thin and sharp. Some cherry notes and just a bit of tar that are surrounded by active tannins and acids. Fair effort.

Decanted for an hour and was ready to go. Nice fruit with some earth. Simple and enjoyable.

This wine was at its best about an hour after opening (no decant), pairing well with a big fat grilled NY strip. Seven hours later it is still very tannic but all the fruit has faded and it tastes old and tired.

2006 vintage

A wonderful pairing with some risotto my guests brought from their trip to Piedmont. Wine has held to beautifully. Tannins were refined, balanced acidity and a pleasant mouthfeel. Really enjoyed this wine. Drink now.

Quite fresh and drinkable. Would expect to have another 5-10 year drinking window.

Nothing earth-shattering, but a good and pleasant nebbiolo for daily drinking.

Bright, medium-dark color. Funky nose indicative of older casks, slight bacterial spoilage and some volatility, typical of old-fashioned Barolo. Plenty of fruit in the flavor but not much tannin. A near-term drinker.

Garnet in color with a ruby edge. Nose of violets, tar, and hints of cherries. Tastes of cherries, tobacco, and hint of leather. Modern style which is approachable now and drinking well. Should develop positively in the short term. Drink over the next 7 years.

Pop/pour. 20 minutes later - on the nose, rich and deep in character. Sort of a perfumed, woody, boozy combo. On the palate, this is a bit out of sorts at present, and comes across more as a bunch of individual components (fruits, acids, tannins, an odd green pepper not I'm not used to in a Barolo) as opposed to an integrated drink. Deep ruby, faint shades of mahogany in the center grading to red brick edges. Shriveled strawberry and fresh cut roses, some black cherry, dominate the nose, faint vanilla and cedar. Red raspberry joins across the palate and finish is solidly as the beginning, lingering handmade red licorice and milk chocolate with red oak. The only other review here describes the wine as tannic, dry, bitter, etc. In other words, all things Barolo/Nebbiolo -at least for those new to the grape/region. Licorice straight in- nicer than getting smoke/spice blasted at you. A nice orange tint which suggest good aging. A good oaky smell that's not too overpowering. A little bit of candied vanilla and cherries- like a Twizzler. Pretty tannic on the taste, a little bitter as well. High expectations created by the nose are not satisfied on the tongue- a bit disappointing.
