Radikon, Merlot, Collio

Its surprising that precisely Merlot is aged more than any other cuvee made by Radikon, 5 years in old oak barrels and 10 years in bottle, 15% abv. Medium garnet colour, orange hue. Medium+ intensity aroma of baked plums, spices, earth, boiled cherries, herbal hints. Medium body, silky texture, flavours of plums in chocolate, herbal and spice notes, medium density, very fine medium tannins. Unfortunately on a steady decline, wish I’ve tried it 5 years ago.

Opened as an end of night sipping wine and enjoyed it a lot. Medium garnet color, slightly cloudy. Powerful nose of roasted black plum, black cherry, a bit of funk and earth, dried and baked red fruits. Similar flavors on the palate with a ripe, slightly baked, fruit profile but balanced by good acidity, which was surprising on a 15% wine with ripe fruit. Long finish. Drinks like an amarone. Really horrible. Only bottle of the Merlot tasting that everybody hated

Barolo and friends 2023; 9/8/2023-9/16/2023 (Le Langhe, Piedmont, Italy) : Rich, ripe fruit, slightly sewery. Bramble, blackcurrant, undergrowth. Savoury funk, salty and smoked meat character. Earthy too. Medium body, powerful and concentrated. Long finish.

Oxidised. Stewed fruit.
