Nydelig vin. Moden, rik i stilen, drikker godt nå.

Pale yellow. Abundant bouquet of fresh but sweet lemons mixed with equally fresh herbs and a very faint trace of gooseberry. Finely balanced in the mouth. Works equally well at the table as in the comfy chair. Excellent wine.

Denne har utviklet seg pent siden siste flaske drukket i 2018. Nydelig da i sin pure ungdom, vel så god nå! Utviklet, strågul farge. Nydelig duft av grønne epler og lime har utviklet seg til et modnere duftpreg med sødmefull sitrusduft, særlig av grapefrukt. Jeg noterte ananas sist, det er der fortsatt i from av grillet ananas og ananaslake, og vi har et hint av honningmelon. Smaken er pent utviklet med god fylde og konsentrasjon. A little reductive on the nose, but with some citrus. The impressive aspect of this wine is the consistent intensity from beginning to long finish. Tasted with other 2012 Ungeheuers, and it stood out as by far the best.

This jumps out of the glass with a beautiful mix of tropical fruits, pineapples, lime, even some hints of kiwi, oranges and some vanilla notes in the mix here as well I think; super concentrated, energetic and ripe on the palate with a creamy texture and a long, lingering, mineral finish with very high acidity. 17/20

Very aromatic nose with tropical fruit and some marzipan. Decent acidity. Good length. Maybe lacking the nerve and complexity of the best vintages, but very enjoyable.

Agree with the previous taster. At the beginning the wine was unharmonious with a strange acidity. It became better and better after some air and accompanied by food. Strong and slightly mature yellow color, on the nose diffuse but intensive. The mouthfeel, good acidity, good flow, a more old style more on the fruity side dominated Riesling. This has gotten much better with some more time in the bottle. Great acidity and tropical notes. Very nice wine. Not decanted, drank over four hours. Some funk right out of the bottle, but that disappeared with some swirls of the glass. Long finish.

Tasted next to the 2016. Notes of petrol, minerality, white stone fruit, citrus fruit, herbal. Powerful, lots of acidity, quite austere, long. Drink or keep. 88-90

Tour VDP.GROSSE LAGE 2018 Vol.1 (Hotel Atlantic, Hamburg) : Glad to notice that this Weingut is showing some older samples of their GG, as usual the 2015 is packed with ripe fruit, concentrated, rich, but all very good balanced by the supporting acidity, with some bottle age a delicious creamy appearance, WOW, impressive! Intens duft; sitrusdrevet med tydelige grapefrukttoner og grønne epler. Sjø og saltvann mot slutten av kvelden. Eksplosiv smak, stor kraft. Fremtredende frukt med grapefrukttoner. Sødmefull frukt, stålsyre; kompakt, ren og slank. Forførende god - ingen synd å prøve en flaske av denne nå.

Virkelig flott nese. Kjølig frukt, mineralsk og energisk nese. Fint anslag i munnen. Mer moden og gul frukt enn hva jeg er vant med i Ungeheuer. Tropiske elementer. Flott energisk og kilende syre. Lang og avbalansert ettersmak. Blir litt tyngre i sessen når temperaturen stiger. Pdd så foretrekker jeg 2014 foran 2015 på tørr riesling. 2015 skal få av seg valpefettet, så får vi se hvordan dette blir. 88-90 med potensielle oppside.

Snev av petro, ellers smått tropisk, noe lime. Svært frisk i munnen - syra har nesten et reint sitronpreg. Fyldig i konsistensen, selv om syra dominerer munnfølelsen. OK ettersmak med litt saltpreg og noe grapefrukt.

Lots of minerality on the nose, flint stone, ripe fruit, herbs, slightly creamy. On the palate lots of power and weight but very precise and vibrant. Very good. 92-93+

2015 vintage

No this wine is not overrated ;-) This was a nearly perfect bottle of dry Riesling. The pureness, freshness and the aromatic depth/complexity were just great. A higl Level of minerlaity and a superb acitiy makes this wine to a great wine experience.

A Riesling GG summernight: first bottle of first flight, tropical fruit in the nose, evolves a lot with airation, gets balanced with a lot of apricot on the palate, a lot of acidity in the background, will maybe evolve by some (3+) years in the cellar, **(*), 87-89+?

Took some GG- bottles from my cellar to see how they have evolved, this one still needs airation after popping and pouring, matured intensive yellow- golden colour, floral hints in the nose, on the palate ripe yellow tropical fruit, still very lively acidity, quite balanced, in the background strong minerality, fullbodied, long aftertaste, will maybe benefit from further cellaring, try 3- 5+ years, **- ***, 86- 88+

Preg av mandler og litt moden frukt på duft. Noe vandig - har ikke helt lagt på seg den fylden den burde hatt. Salt og litt grapefrukt gjennom smakskurven. Litt kort i ettersmaken. En god vin, men litt skuffende til GG å være, men så var den også i en annen prisklasse.

Kräftiges gelb. Erste Reifetöne, tropische Früchte, Citrus, mineralische Noten, lebendige Säure, recht breit, schöner Nachhall. Gelungen.

Lys klar, strågul. Superren nese, med moden sitrus, skifer, og hint av tropisk frukt. Fyldig fløyelsaktig i munnen, mot viskøs, men stor syre som allikevel flytter vinen over i det friske hjørnet. Medium intensitet. Mineralsk og og hvit frukt i avslutningen. Medium minus lengde. Veldig god vin.

A lovely wine. Citrus, yellow apples, peach, pineapple and a hint of honey on the nose. Quite compact, full bodied, with intense frutiness and steely adidity. Note to self: No the best match with sashimi!

Dag 1 viste den tropisk frukt, mineral mot petro. Skarp og presis syre med innsmigrende sødme i finish. Dag to var den langt mer mineralsk mot skifer, slankere og mer presis frukt. Flott syre. Lang. Den legger på seg mot dag 4 og har en fyldigere frukt.

Tropical fruit aromas. Good intensity of flavour, crunchy green apple cleansed by really zippy acidity. Almost a flinty character on the finish.

Howard Ripley 2012 Grosses Gewächs Tasting (Middle Temple Hall, London) : Leafy, herbal aromatics. Palate is a little incohesive: some apple and grapefruit but they're pulling in different directions. Stony finish. 16/20.

Lots of lime on the nose, bone dry, linear, a bit lean and austere.

Complex and delicat nose. Plenty of richness and concentration - apples, lime, minerality and tropical fruits with a hint of florality and peach/apricot. Touch of CO2 in the attack phase. Intense and concentrated mid palate. The mouthfeel is extremely rich - close to oily. There's so much minerals here, it's almost like licking on a wet stone whilst being electrocuted. The finish is lemony and extremely refreshing, with a slight hint of pepper at the end. Lasts forever.

Medium lemon core. Medium plus intensity with aromas of ripe green apple, some honey, withe flowers and hint of petrol. Still developing. On the palate, dry with medium plus acidity, medium alcohol and medium plus body. It has medium plus flavourintensity with flavours of ripe green apples, honey and citrus. Long lenght. More nuances than in the '11 drunk the same evening, citrus in the direction of grapefruit and bitter oranges, hint of tropical fruit and litchi. Full bodied, quite intense, almost "oily" on the palate. Fine acid that disappears somewhat faster than the three year younger brother.

Floral, white peach nose. But at the moment this is mostly about the intensely acidic spine. Just an unbelievably tightly wound wine. Quite interesting to drink in a slightly masochistic way, but I'm sure its best says are at least 6-7 years in the future. Very clearly classy wine making and a lot of potential.

A delightful and complex dry Pfalz Riesling from the Ungeheuer vineyard (“Ungeheuer” means “huge monster”), that was Otto von Bismarck‘s favorite wine. He is reported to have said „Dieses Monster schmeckt mir ungeheuer“ (which means „This monster tastes monstrously good“). Wonderful ripe Riesling. Lots of peaches, lime and apple on the nose. Great texture. One can tell that it has matured, but that only adds to the complexity. Liked it a lot.
