Beautiful intense lemon sherbet and talcum powder nose. A big intense hit of lemon on the palate which dissipates into clouds of lemon. As the wine sits in the glass, it turns rockier and minerally. 95-96. Plus 1 day. Lemon and lime tonight, both on nose and palate. Very lovely wine, like the 24 Dellchen and 24 Kuhling Gillot Pettenthal, just lacking 5% drive on the finish. Plus 1 week. Lighter, airier. Lemon.

The nose was incredibly open with a basket of sweet yellow fruits, pineapple, peach and ripe apple. Reduction notes can now only be guessed at. Interesting that the wine has already undergone such a strong transformation. On the palate, the wine was lean, focused, very citrusy with a ripe, strong acidity and minerality and a nice length. I would have liked a little more concentration and depth.

Surprisingly open style, both for a GG of the vintage and for Schäfer-Fröhlich. Impresses with its plentiful aroma and very long length. Mostly citrus fruits and wet stone on the palate. Manages a fantastic (characteristic even for 2019) 'Stoffigkeit' and in turn quaffability. Maybe not one of the most top-tier Riesling GGs, but certainly a wonderful wine.

Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck GG Tasting and Lunch (Rieslinghuis Tasting Room, Zandvoort, NL) : Showing beautifully in its maturity, develops very well in the glass, lovely tension and interplay between delicately honeyed, sweet fruit (orange, mango), and firm acidity, spicy depth, palpable minerality on the finish, not quite as detailed as the best Felseneck GG’s (but in better shape than the Felseneck 2008 today).

Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Großes Gewächs Master Class plus some extra's (@ Rieslinghuis in Zandvoort, Netherlands) : The wine is showing some development and is at its peak now. Soft and tasty with good acidity and some pleasant sweetness. Rich wine in a perfect drinking stage.

I don't find the famous Felsenberg smokiness but tons of citrus fruit in all forms and colour, wet stone, reductive notes of flint and some petrol. Yet this is young, too young maybe and I will come back after 2026. / Light yet dense, enormous length and very high, demanding acidity / Benefits from caraffing and needs 14° rather than 10° Celsius in my opinion.

Goldgelb.

Glass: Zalto Bordeaux Popped and poured, drunk over three days. Clear, pale golden-yellow color. Wonderful clear and pronounced nose. Lots of sweet fruit, lime, some smoke, crushed stones, floral and herbaceous notes. Very fresh, dense, complex and multi-layered. Dry, wonderful juicy acidity, 13% abv. Lots of fine sweet fruit (stone fruit and passion fruit), herbs and lots of mineral notes. Wonderful precision and tension, great energy and depth. Beautiful balance, everything is at its right place. This wine is so …

Grabbed this young one in the heat of the summer afternoon, Gun powder rules the nose, some whiffs of grape fruit, even spontaneous fermentation notes in the background, more settled than some year ago, zesty palate, lemon and saline flow over the mid palate, smoky as smoky can be, one of the strong identifying features from the Felsenberg, this bottle is more open than usual from S-F, but the grip and the depth makes you want more sips quickly, not …

Loads of gun powder, both on the nose and on the palate, the nose spicy only, really no fruit at the moment, very good grip, deep salty flow, demanding mineral and acidic bite, this is the main goal here at this moment, lingering finish, for me one of the best vintages from S-F and the Felsenberg so far, no need to hurry, enjoy over the next decade+, **(**-*****), around 93, 94(+) potential

So there is a warm wind again at northern good old Germany, so pnp a white vine bottle to cool down......., Stunning nose, nothing but spice, gun powder, an artillery regiment firing over hours, young acid, not supporting, demanding, nothing but volcanic finesse, pronounced on the palate, mouthwatering young, unbelievable lingering, with more aeration not getting silky, no, this is changing to a more and more wild stallion! So, this is a very young showing still, will improve easily over …

Back to Riesling County; 8/27/2020-8/31/2020 (Estates at the Nahe and Ruwer, different restaurants at Bad Kreuznach, Niederhausen and Trier) : WOW, unbelievable on the nose and palate, as I always try and buy this site from different producers and every vintage this vintage it is like coming home, the real volcanic sophistication, tight, but on the other hand dancing on the palate, electric acidic tension, smoky, finesse like flow, extremely lingering finish, maybe the best vintage from this site from …

Bracing acidity. Wet rocks. A little bit of petrol on open. Just a touch of sugar on the back end. Paired well with my chile verde posole. Doesn't feel like there is anything below the surface that will continue to develop from here. Straight ahead rock n roll rather than a nuanced jazz tune.

A very intense bouquet with a lot of minerality from this slate dominated teroir. Intense fruit with grapefruit, candied lemon zest. Overall this wine has great precision and still the typical Schäfer-Fröhlich characteristics. But with time the "sponti" aromas mellow out. Quite long I expect this wine will stay at its plateau for another 5 years, wichich is especially amazing for this warm vintage.

On the balcony at Dubai: the best bottle of all Rieslings there, no doubt, cold slatemineralic appearance, very fine, on the palate very young, once again an acidic cobra, this all at the moment in the foreground, a lot of citrus, not balanced yet, but power, power, power, WILL improve over the next decade, very long aftertaste, one of the best GG I ever had from this vintage! **(**+- ?), 92- 94+?

I remember being riveted by a barrel tasting of the 09 Felseneck GG when I visited Tim in the summer of 2010 (shhh... don't tell the vdp), the raciness of the native yeasts, the blue grey slate tones in the minerality, citrusy, almost pink grapefruit notes on the palate, a big, muscular exciting dry riesling. The Felsenberg is sometimes overshadowed by the deserved hype around Felseneck. This bottle last night, allowed to warm up a bit and decanted into a …

A lovely dryg Riesling, the 2009 Felsenberg GG delivers the typical lychee, lemon and lime zest, a whiff of mint and an abundance of minerals. The nose certainly is powerful, but it is also balanced, integrated and rather elegant. The palate adds nicely to the overall experience with total control and perfect balance. Of course acidity speaks up, but in comparison to the other components it is still well-behaved. This is class-act winemaking and power is meticulously balanced with elegance. …
