P&L Borgeot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain

Another (and likely my last) bottle of this, it’s still quite superb. In a great place right now, see my last note.

I have really enjoyed the white burgundies from 2017 and this wine is a testament to the quality of the vintage. Surprised I haven’t already posted a note on it but seeing Xavier94’s note from last spring (tasting it blind), I’m confident that it’s from my showing this wine to him. Nothing about the wine has changed or evolved much in the 10 intervening months, so I refer you to his (as usual) excellent note. I’m at 93+ with this …

Incredible showing (tasted blind) with its finely-tuned nose of peach puree', deep citrus with orange blossoms, honey and spearmint that seem to come out with ease and a very elegant, perhaps slightly understated fashion (was quite cold initially). Very elegant Chassagne with a supple palate that keeps the acidity well-managed. Terrific wine-making, I may add! Ripe and soft without being flabby, expressive and aromatic without being too "loud" and very modest oak impression.

Long finish appreciated

This is a bit closed down - wonderful nose, but the mid-palate has an awkward bitterness and there is no finish at all. Hoping a few years will smooth it out.

Drinking very well, good flavors, moderate depth, decent although expecting better from this v.y. H's backyard dinner party. Alex

12 months 30% new oak. Medium nose shows mushroom, lemon peel, green apple, light earth. Palate gives mineral and fruit, similar style to their other Puligny bottling. Classic example.
