The nose is layered with a range of fruits and just a touch of brioche and spice from the oak. What surprised me most here is the freshness and lift, it balances the richness of the wine so well. Still young, with oak needing another year or two to fully melt in, but already showing an elegance I didn’t expect.

A really good bottle. Complex aromatics of lavender, honeysuckle, mango and smoke. The palate is rich, heady and layered. There's good freshness and a custard/lactic feel. It builds then dries off with plenty of bitter citrus.

This bottle was past its prime. When chilled and initially tasted, you could briefly enjoy the beauty that was this wine. There was a hint of oxidation that became more and more pronounced. Sadly, we watered the azaleas with the remainder of the bottle, which was my last of this vintage. In its prime, it was a beauty!!!

Very deep Golden color. White peach and eucalyptus on the nose. Viscous and oily. Not much acidity. Long finish with some white pepper hints. Had this with French mussels. Quite delicious. A stark contrast to the white burgundy we started our dinner with. Haven’t had an aged nine year old condrieu from my cellar before so nice to try this!

Beautiful- very floral white peach and apricot nose; oily viscous mouthful with a long finish: same sweet white stone fruit; some very minor hints of petrol or diesel; just a dash of salinity. The thing this lacks for me personally is more acidity to propel it to a higher score. But very enjoyable.

Medium intensity of colour that is gold to Amber. A floral nose. Citrus fruit, lemon and perfume. High acidity. Pronounced alcohol. Full bodied. Long finish. This was layered, balanced and whilst ready, should improve. The nose was a clear step up over the 2016 (which I didn't like) albeit the palate was quite similar. Shared by ST

Typical Viognier, with aroma of very mature fruits and fatness supported by acidity. Good wine but not my style. 92 for its value; 90 for my taste.

Wow. Poured a medium + yellow into the glass, and very clear which to me is a tiny bit on the remarkable side given age. This wine had a hint of butter but more complex than that. Honeysuckle, kiwi, melon, lemon, butter. Very complex nose and entry. Middle was weighted very nicely. Herbal infusion in the middle with good fruit. The finish is sublime. Crushed rock, acidity, all the fruit from the front and some white pepper and herb. Really …

Nose is good with more white flower hint. Palate is little bit one dimension with very very low acidity. Almost sweet. Has it's own character but seems not to match the high score what RP gave.

PnP, but the wine color was unusually dark and the wine was completely pre-moxed and undrinkable. Purchased from K&L.

I beaituful Viognier from Guigal, but, then, Guigal only makes lovely wines. It went beautifully with a dish of Rose Poached Fruit de Mer/Bruleed Peach/Creme Fraiche - prepared by Chef Cullen Kent of Cafe Society (Memphis). It was mature yet fresh and vibrant with lovely aromas, great mouth feel (a great balance of crushed stone and citrus) on the palate and a lingering finish. A very balanced and enjoyable wine.

Two bottles opened. Darker color than is typical for this wine. A nice, but not the exuberant and explosive nose this wine often gives. Slightly tired in the mouth. I like condrieu with a little age, but this wine was better a few years ago. Drink up.

Zachys Holiday - Dec 2016 (Smith & Wollensky (48th & 3rd Ave)) : Perfect pairing with the seafood buffet they always do at Smith & Wollensky for the auctions. White fleshy fruit, hints of spice, and a butteriness that works particularly well with lobster.

stefanakiko's notes below describe the wine well; we disagree only on the question of enjoyment. (And so that's a credit to his descriptions, bravo.) This was our second and last bottle over the past two years, and we are sorry not to have at least one more.

Wineferno Tokyo 2014 (La Rochelle Akasaka (Tokyo)) : Have no bearing in my world of wines. Will keep the rest for a long time as the perfumey character of Viognier does nothing for us. Happy, fruity, well oaked, young inviting nose. Chardonnay aromas on perfume speed. Per os: Low level acids and a small, very charming, bitter twist in the finish. Flowery, but less perfumed than the nose. Violets. Intense, but short and rather non-complex. Typical for the grape. Wife: …

Served with a Chapon farci aux fruits et marrons. My best pairing so far. The Doriane from Guigal was very expressive, enough fruits to pair with the farce, but still some smoky/oaky/nutty notes that matched perfectly the chestnuts purée.

Two bitter old guys drinking for smiles (Restaurant Tani in Gaienmae (Tokyo)) : I'm not a huge fan of Viognier. Rich and concentrated in the same way as a better Beaujolais would be. Acids prevalent but in the lower domains. Has a waxy mouthfeel. Restrained aromatics and some umpa-umpa, but still doesn't do it for me. A rather pricey *meh* as I knew what was in the glass but expected a whole lot more... Detta vin är mer av ett …

Best viognier ever. It's nearly perfect. Why I said that? Viognier is one of the most difficult grapes to handle. If not ripe, no fragrance get out; If overripe, the stewed peach and overty bitterness will drive you crazy. This La Doriane is really an exception, it possesses both crystal-like purity and montrachet-like richness. In the nose, violet, nectarine, apricot, lemon, safran, and surprisingly, well integrated oaky flavour. The touch is not as oliy as most of the viogniers, and the acidity …

This is a very food friendly wine. The chef at Cafe Society (Memphis, TN) had prepared 10 courses for the evening. This wine is very versatile. It went very well with 2 courses from the south of France ... and it even went well with the Alsatian rabbit course and a pork course. It was rich (but not in a heavy sense) with floral notes, a touch of sweet oak, a bit of spice and just the right amount of …

My first Condrieu. Coravin'd about 6 oz. Medium gold color. Enticing aromas of honeysuckle, pear, apricot, melon, pineapple, spice, perfume. But not quite the pronounced aromatics that I expected. Full bodied, medium acidity, high alcohol (14.6%). It takes a while for me to get into this wine. With a little salty minerality, oily, perfumey, high alcohol on the palate, my initial reaction was not favorable. After starting off in a montrachet glass (bigger bowl, wider rim), I switched to regular …

amazing bouquet of apricot, flowers. color is golden and viscous in appearance. bright fruit and floral notes, apricot, peach, great viscous mouthful, finish is white pepper, stones and acidity to compliment the nose. could use a tad more acidity which would have pushed this to a higher score for me. not certain if it needs more time, but it does taste young - perhaps it will integrate more over time - but it has a lot of complexity as is …

Shimmering deep gold. Complex nose with strong floral notes, spicy oak, and ripe apricot. A luscious oily palate with obvious but well integrated oak. Very good intensity and length of flavour. A rich satisfying wine that feels like it delivers reasonably well on its considerable price tag.

Light yellow. Big viognier nose, powerful but quite nicely delicate. This is a fairly classic, lush and spicey style of Condrieu - lots of flowers, lychee, spice, quite fat, finish a bit spicey and hard. It is quite impressive and rich, without being overblown, though I must admit I much prefer the more mineral, refined style of Vernet or sometimes Perret.
