I got 4 bottles of this recently at auction. It is a wine I’ve had twice before back in the 1990s when it was a great, sweet wine. Of the 4 bottles this was clearly the darkest and most risky. So I thought I’d start with that. Slow oxygenated for 6 hours though a healthy and distinctly Gewürztraminer smell on opening. On drinking, dark amber colour but no oxidation. Gingery nose. More gingery in the flavour, a touch cardboardy, which …

The darkest yellow in color, has good acids, nice complexity. A winner!

I believe that this cuvee has only been made seven times ever. This is not a house that I know particularly well, but this wine was a stunner. A rich golden color led to a nose that exploded from the glass with everything from rose petals, lychees, a touch of lavender and melon. Think and rich with a level of acid that keeps the wine from being cloying, this is a legend.

Jeff V Bday : Dark yellow/gold in color. Rose of raisins, honey, golden fruits, some spice. Much better than the last sample... a bit more sweetness. Good grip on the back end, but seems like it's best days were in the past.

Dark yellow gold. Very evolved, losing quite a bit of sweetness. A bit over the hill perhaps, but still showing signs of previous gewurtz-like intesity. Caramel ane slight nutty notes to go with the lychee.
