Opened and enjoyed. Medium ruby on the medium to full body. Continues to be a superb bottle, offering deep purples, plums, sassy acidity, some pucker power, and overall integrated full broad tannins and structure. Delicious.

Big and bold, with flavors of cassis, cedar, tobacco, and bay leaf. Uptick of red currant flavored mild+ acidity on the back palate followed by moderate+ tannins on a long finish. Shedding sediment and drinking nicely now, but will likely improve over the next 3-5 years (or even 10 years henceforth) given the heft of fruit and tannins still present.

Yet another smooth and superb bottle. This one with fine grained sediment and tannins, very lush jungle juice with velvety smooth depth to the dark berry melange. Plums, blacks and fruit leathers, some iodine and blueberry as well. Easily a $150+ wine in today’s overpriced industry.

On first opening (11:00 am): dark fruit and earth in nose. Inky red. Bright acid, cedar, blackberry. Still has tannin.

A little bottle variation on this case I see. This one is firing on all cylinders. Very perfumed plum nose with iodine and blueberry. Lush, full bodied, puckering fruit that's smooth, a little tart but nice a full. A classic '97 drinking well. Very plummy on day three +. Not over the hill, just much more oxidized and dark.

Opened and poured. A bit of barnyard on the nose, and this bottle was a bit off - just not showing like the others from this case. It was a bit muted, and a little acidic/sour. Mild funk blew off and it gained a little traction but overall I'll call this a flawed/corked bottle.

Opened and served. Very dark with slight bricking. Full bodied, big wine. This bottle showing more maturity, smooth and inky and more blue fruit dominated. A little less sweetness, more purple velvet. A little graphite, and a touch of anise on the nose as well. Coming off a cold so this note might be slightly affected.

This was really nice. There is some age here now, the tannins have mellowed a bit and there are some riper stewed fruit flavors. I taste black cherry, some baking spice. It's in a nice place.

Opened and poured from recent auction purchase. Wow, such a nice wine and QPR....love the '97s. A little barn funk on the nose. A little bricking to dark red/purple. Purple and chewy palate - this is lively and dense and tons of plum, blacks, with some cedar/licorice starting to show right upon open. Day two under vac-u-vin, the barn element is gone, and this is much darker and fuller - black, briar, tea leaf, very well integrated tannins. The sweetness …

The wine came off as very extracted, tons of dark fruits, vanilla, oak with still formidable tannins. I was expecting a wine that would be pretty subtle considering its age but instead came off as a primary monolithic brut. People who enjoy Californian style I guess would enjoy this but not my cup of tea. Drank this at a byob steakhouse with my parents.

No obvious issues, but I really don't care for this style. Pours very dark with virtually zero bricking. The nose is fairly undeveloped and mostly primary. A powerful and clearly extracted style. The nose is of blackberry jam, raisin, twigs, tree bark, and dry wood. The palate has bitter tannin, and massively extracted dark fruit.

I have several problems with this wine. First, why is it every time I have this wine blind I guess it's 20 years younger? Second, Why is it that I am unable to keep older Knight's Valley in my cellar? Third, Why is it that I only buy 2 bottles whenever a new vintage is released instead of buying 2 cases? Year in, year out, one of the most consistent and well produced wine from Sonoma and in this particular …

I agree with cos65, but am NOT surprised. These Ed Sbragia bargain cabs, are all wonderful at 20 years of age! What a winemaker and, in this instance, what a wine! So fresh, with gorgeous balance, dark cherry and cassis; the wine just shimmers down your throat. This is a gorgeous wine by ANY standard. Time to drink it but will hold another year or two.

Quite a lovely surprise. Still fairly deep ruby purple. Bright red fruited, Lovely balance and rather perfect right now A nice surprise. This was cellared since release; I can’t imagine holding up this well for much longer. I’d try it now if you have some left.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), medium toast, tobacco and vanilla. It tastes like light toast, vanilla and tobacco. The body is medium. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

As per previous note last year, very savoury with little or no fruit left. A lovely old bottle of aged Napa cabernet which in all honesty probably has seen better days but enjoyable none the less. Medium to long finish of ultra-fine tannins. Based on this bottle it is time to drink up.

Deep garnet in colour. Very savoury nose with notes of subtle spices and tobacco. Palate is very approachable, savoury with dark stone fruits and spice. Very elegant wine with a medium to long subtle finish. As per other notes, the fruit is fading so would recommend to drink this within the next year or so. For $20 and plenty of patience, this is bang for your buck Knights Valley cabernet. Well done Beringer!

Tasted double-blind, this deep garnet/amber wine offers aromas of sassafras, chocolate, pipe tobacco and red plum. On the palate, it is full-bodied, has medium acidity, seamless alcohol (13.9%) and melted tannins. The flavors mirror the nose and the middle palate is solid. Concluding tart and with medium length, this 17-year-old Cabernet is still pleasant to drink. That said, it would best be consumed within the next year or two (as the fruit is waning). Drink now-2016.

Not a great showing tonight for this one. Never seemed to open up, however, it had a nice structure and thick tannins. Really lacked in the fruit department and the abbreviated finish that was nothing short of one dimensional.

NobleRottersSydney - Fosters new releases (Guillaume at Bennelong) : {13.8%, cork} Something unusual for us, and a wine that would be priced around the A$60 mark if on current release, which given the level of local taxes and American pricing suggests it ought to be judged against Bin 407-type wines. The nose here offers fairly simple cabernet leafy/cedary fruit; a bit one-dimensional perhaps, but still pleasant. The palate adds some choco-vanilla oak notes to the soft berry fruit. The finish …
