I decanted this wine about 60 minutes I could of decanted it longer. Beautiful nose. I could smell the wine 12 inches away The wine has easily another 5 years plus. Not at its prime yet. However, it is drinking great. Silky approach with rounded tannins Certainly a presence of high alcohol Long finish. Lovely wine

FW surf and turf (FW) : Tasted in fW, flat, boring, probably needed more patience with it but too many other bottles to try.

Ok…needs 3 hours of air …tartness blows off and it comes into balance . Subtle cherries , pencil lead, spice, leather edge ….

Decant for 3 hours, wonderful big fruit, but not a fruit bomb. Clean long finish...

A little closed on the nose but chocolate and earthy, chocolate and licorice on first sip, candied red cherry, a hint of cracked pepper and a little heat on the back. Full bodied and strong tannins with a never ending finish.

Dad's Birthday (The Ranch, WI) : Very dark, purple-red color. PNP, drank 2 glasses over 3 hours. Had this at the ranch for my Dad's birthday under less than optimal conditions with high heat and humdity. This had gotten way to warm despite being on ice packs and was flabby and unbalanced on pouring. After a good bit of time chilling this down we had a completely different wine. This was quite similar to past experiences and I would completely …

The last Altamura cab I tasted was 10 years ago - a 1999 Altamura cabernet. That wine was spectacular. It is still one of my benchmark wines! This wine, the 2009, was good but nowhere near the spectacular of the 1999. The wine was full of rich chocolate and dark berry flavors, but it just did not elicit a "Wow!" reaction. My sense was that it is just slightly past its prime. Oh well. Next year we will open the …

Balanced, smooth as the age of the wine has mellowed it out, good fruit, crowd pleaser, a bit dull as low tannin, would drink up., drank with steak.

Chocolate, red cherry leather and smoke. Very rich with layers of flavor and a ridiculously long finish.

Luis doesn't show up for his own tasting (Tilia) : Pop and pour, and it should be decanted, and preferably cellar temperature or even slightly less. This is a bit modern and definitely big.

Mostly Older WTDS at Tillia (Tilia, Mpls) : Very dark red red/purple color. PNP, drank a glass over 40 minutes. This was much better than the last time we had it. Licorice, really dark fruits, oil and earth tones, dark chocolate, cocoa beans, blackberry, dense and full bodied. This really hits you on the attack and then fans out acrosss the palate. Hi octane, but smooth andholds together well now. Adds a little blue fruit over time.

A little disappointed in this bottle. Pulled from cellar but did warm up to room temperature as we drank the bottle. The heat really came through as the bottle warmed masking most of the enjoyable elements of the wine. There was some cedar box/spice but the 14% alcohol ran the show.

Bring a Very Good Bottle (Kenwood Restaurant) : Amazing what a couple years and a decant do. This is new world for sure, but there is balance and gorgeous, bright zippy red fruit.

Heavily extracted Napa. Deep ruby in color with blackberry liqueur, plum, and cassis. Over the top for my palate, though many will certainly enjoy this.

An Interesting Mix (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN) : Very dark red/purple color. Decanted for a couple hours, followed one glass over 75 minutes. Sorry, but I couldn't really force this down. It was very hot, big and extracted black fruit with wood cloudy everything. Disappointing for me tonight. Score reserved - hopefully more time brings this around, but I am not convinced.

I've tasted other vintages of Altamura but not in the past few years as it has my opinion that the quality to price ratio was not quite there. Each has been big, fruit forward, juicy and in most cases enjoyable. The 2009, however, seems to lack the balance/acidity of other vintages to keep the fruit and juiciness in check. Very easy to drink and tgasty, but became a bit one note after the second glass. I have one more bottle …

By Dr. Azul, Had the 2009 Altamura and the 2013 Lewis at a Restaurant on Thursday evening. Blind tasted them both. All preferred the Lewis over the Altamura. I brought both wines and was a little disappointed with the Altamura’s showing. The 2009; was not as good as the’08 or ‘07. Not nearly as elegant as the previous two years. Although showed some fruit, had some heat at the finish. Did get better over the night, but not sure additional …

Drinking really well here. I get a wet wood note on the back end of the palate as a secondary nuance, which strikes me as odd, as the fruit is round and shifted to the dark end of the spectrum but no forest floor earlier in the profile. In any event, this wine seems to have peaked. I’d drink earlier than 2023 (and I’m usually one who thinks CT has the back end of the drinking window off.)
