This is a lovely Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is in a very good phase right now! With its refined nature, alluring berry notes and a soft mouthfeel, this wine is having a somehow Burgundian character. However, there is also plenty of fruit, body and structure to make the wine intensive on the palate. Nicely balanced CDP, smooth yet bold enough with slight earthiness which I love! Really delicious!

100% biodynamically farmed Grenache from the younger vines in lieux-dits La Guigasse and Pignan. The average vine age is 50 yo, but the old-vine fruit goes into single-vineyard versions - only some press wine from the single-vineyard bottlings is blended with this wine. All fruit is vinified in whole bunches and fermented spontaneously. Aged in old French oak casks. 14% alcohol. Decanted. First glass at four hours. Earthy, almost grassy on the nose, with notes of plum, black cherry and licorice. Leads with dark berries on the palate but at hour five it takes a turn - red fruits and spring flowers play against notes of cigar and spice box. On night two the red fruits have taken hold - brambly raspberries and caramelized strawberry, kirsch and garrigue notes on the nose. Notes of currant and cherry, seared meat and cut …

This is a gentle and Burgundian type of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in a good sense of the expression. The nose reveals beautiful aromas of ripe raspberries, cherries and strawberries. The taste is medium-bodied and fruity, but also deep, intensive and acidic on the palate, displaying pleasant flavors of ripe red berries. I am not able to tell, how this wine would evolve in the future, but at least it is very enjoyable now.

A light and very deductive wine, not oaky, not over extracted, just delicious.

WEA Chapelle St. Theodric Zoom tasting. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red licorice, spice, kirsch, fruit cake, floral lavendar, red berries, thin enevelope of mineral. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), soft rounded high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of strawberry, ripe red cherries, raspberry fruit pastille, sweet spice, red licorice, touch of kirsch and fruit cake, thin …

Decanted, gave about an hour to breathe. Nose of tart red cherries, with fresh green undertones. On the palate it is very balanced, with bright tart berries and subtle minerality and aromatics. Delicious, lovely wine.

A very pretty 100% Grenache made like a red burgundy and reminds me of Rayas style. Earthy red cherry fruit with Provence spice. Light and airy with nice minerality. Delicate yet fruity and. Dry interesting. Lots of purity. Lovely stuff.

No decant, color light red, nose dark fruits, taste very velvet like and delicious, no tannins, plain glorious!

Notes of black cherries, also red fruit, some pepper, flowery notes, lavender, some garrigue and menthol. It‘s medium-full bodied, but feels lighter, due to the excellent texture and some good freshness with mediujm+ acidity and some medium tannin- tannin adding some grip but being very silky. Good length. An elegant, perfumed and classic feeling CdP. I really like this style. (92+)

Visiting Domaine de Cristia in May 2019 (Courthezon, Rhone Valley, at the domaine) : This represents my dream Chateauneuf du Pape, as far as style goes. It might be a bit less concentrated than La Guigasse, but it’s more elegant and approachable – and a lot cheaper. This is how classic CdP should look like, in my view. So bright and lively. I love this.

Black raspberry and floral notes with their licorice accents distinguish the wine. Fresh, elegant, supple and sexy, the fruit is elegant, sweet, and ripe, with a kirsch leaning in the pure, cherry finish.. The wine is made using 100% old vine Grenache.
