Penfolds 802.B Superblend

Medium ruby red in appearance. A nice amount of baking spices and blackberries on the nose. Love this straight out the bottle. Medium tannins (6/10) with a medium to medium plus body. A bit tight to start on the attack of the palate with some dark red berries and a hint of spice. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2030.

Not blind This is the first Australian Cab worthy and able to stand up to a Napa cab. What a surprise! Although the varieties are different, I preferred this over Grange. This has some light acidity in the finish but is a lovely extracted cab which starts fruity yet quickly is balanced with the Shiraz pulling back the fruit. Hl2 fd2 tannins 6

CellarDoor TWE Tasting (Kimpton Margot Sydney) : Black fruit compote has a sense of density and concentration; a little meaty/blood quality accompany blackberry, currant, oak is controlled (!). In the mouth it's concentrated and dense with non-delineated black fruits but still retains freshness, plenty of oaky flavours but not dominant nor are the talc textured tannins or the non intrusive alcohol warmth on the long finish. Crikey this is very good.
