Yabby Lake Vineyard, Single Block Release Block 6 Chardonnay, Mornington Peninsula

First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield) : Served blind. Spicy, peppery, alcohol warmth, biscuit, toast, a little wild ferment, ginger, a little citrus, orange, apple, struck match. Medium plus intensity acidity, citrus and tending to slightly sharp, flavours are muted which was a disappointment after the interesting nose. I went with Tumbarumba Chardonnay 2016

Liking this now with some more age. Now 7 years. Light colour. Straw honeysuckle nose. Some ripe apricot and melon flavours. Fantastic Chardonnay. Block 6.

Terroir-istes International - Australia-Victoria, Mornington Peninsular Chardonnay (Overgaauw Wine Estate) : (Tasted Blind): A mid-yellow hue with expressive notes of peach, yuzu peel, wet stones, and jasmine, further enriched by nuances of lemon custard cream, mineral and tangerine. The entry is smooth with a Williams pear-flesh texture delicately intertwined with creme fraiche. This fleshy core is checked by fabulous acidity with bite and edge and a green apple pithiness, carrying the wine to a long, winding finish. All told, the …

Lemon curd, nectarines, Japanese seaweed, fresh oysters with lemon juice, gun smoke, solid line of acidity holding it all together and prolonging the flavours to give a lovely long finish. Built to age but drinking beautifully now, it�s all integrated and complete.
