Candialle Chianti Classico La Misse

Cherry and blood orange up front, leading towards a mint and earth core with good lift and nice tannin on the bright finish. Grew on me over the course of a few hours, this is really nice at a very nice price.

Our last dinner in Vienna, at Cafe Restaurant Leto. Only 6 bottles of white and 6 of red to choose from. At €40, this was a nice treat. Youthful, plenty of fruit, restrained tannins, medium finish, no flaws. A little "hot" at 13%.

A blend of Sangiovese (96%), Malvasia Nera aka. Tempranillo (2%) and Canaiolo (2%). Aged for 6 months in concrete vessels, the remainder in used oak barrels before bottling. 13% alcohol. Translucent, youthful ruby red color. Very ripe yet also wonderfully fresh and clean nose with vibrant, fruit-forward aromas of sweet cherries and strawberries, some tobacco, a little bit of tree bark, light mineral notes of hot stones and a crunchy hint of cranberry.
