Mocha eucalyptus on the nose, didn’t need any decanting was delicious from he start. Mixed berries, darker fruit, slightly dry, oak, tobacco. Was quite delicious. Not a juicy jammy cabernet at all, not as bold as I would like it.

Deeply extracted to the eye, of opaque dark black cherry color with a red corona at the rim. The nose shows muted and slightly smokey aromas of blackberry and blueberry, with a reticent bouquet of dried cigar tobacco and pencil box. The ABV is 14.1%, a bit higher than the Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon of the eighties, a Bordeaux ABV level of 12.5%. The mouthfeel is a velvety, medium viscosity, with slightly more tannin than the concomitant sweet blue-black fruit flavors. …

Very nice nose of black currant, smoky oak, hot gravel and mint! Medium-full bodied with flavors of granitic minerals, creosote, black current, charred oak and a bit of vanilla and dark chocolate. Great texture, with the perfect grit from the tannins, this is just excellent and fun to drink! MUCH better than expected. Drink now-2027 93

90 min double decant. Very deep dark electric magenta color. Stewed blueberry, blackberry, minerality, and subtle tobacco on the nose. Creamy palate, with tongue drying acidity. Full tannins on the longish finish. Sort of a higher level porch pounder. I imagine the ‘16 and ‘18 are much better. This is quaffable despite the poor vintage.

At the Rombauer wine dinner served with the Wagyu steak. The nose is a mixture of blueberry and cherry. The palate was blueberry, dark cherry, tobacco and coffee. The finish was moderate.

Decanted for 1.5 hours and consumed over the following two. Rich, red/violet color in the glass with floral and slight menthol aromas. Medium plus body, nicely balanced, with the fruit front and center. Flavors of cherry, herbs, blue fruit, dark chocolate and baking spice. Very appealing with a medium-long, lingering finish. Has the pedigree to age for 5 years or more but also can be enjoyed now!

PNP at the restaurant, with no time to decant. Garnet red in the glass with wonderful aromas of dark cherry, rose pedals and vanilla. Pleasantly surprised how approachable this wine was at such a young age. Medium mouthfeel, while delivering flavors of blueberry, clove, glycerin, cherry, pine nut and tobacco. Nicely balanced with tannins and acidity both contributing in equal parts. Silky smooth with no heat on the long, enjoyable finish. The 2018 vintage from this producer is a winner!

Funny, big rich fruit. Allot of new French oak, and on day two. A bit tired but here it is. Tastes a bit like Paso for some reason.

In the era of COVID I've been shopping in my closet and finding stuff we should have uncorked long ago. This is one of those. I expected it to truly suck and to pour it down the drain after a preliminary sip. Not the case. Decanted and let it rest for an hour. Soft and round, tannins pretty much gone. But berry and fruit flavor still there. More depth than I expected. No one can buy any of this wine …

Full, rich flavor of cherry, dark fruit, some spice, and toasty oak. The oak is a bit overpowering, though. Stout tannin gives the wine a solid structure. Score may improve with time if the balance improves. 1.5 hour decant, 375 ml bottle.

Rombauer Dinner @ Avenue in Clayton Double decanted. Served with filet. Delivers plenty of fruit, and more than plenty of tannins. The 1.5Ls of this are going to have to lay down for at least 5 years. This wine had a surprising aging potential that I did not expect. Think of it in line with some of napa bourdeux blends from 2013 Color to the rim, big pleasant fruits and an earthy nose. Good stuff. 80% cab makes sense. But …

17 months in 70% new French oak. 1 day of air at time of note (which benefits this young tight wine) Toasty oak on the nose up front that is quickly followed notes of cherry, currant, vanilla, herb, pencil shavings, crushed florals and a hint of eucalyptus. The palate is still a bit tight even with ample air. Burly, full-gripping tannins and juicy acidity rides on flavors of cherry, cassis, chestnut, oak, no.2 pencil, herbs, vanilla and lesser hints of …

Light purple color. Deep red and black currants, yet fresh and juicy, also loaded with eucalyptus, menthol, cola, coffee and violets. Full-bodied, velvety but grippy tannins, medium/low acidity. Juicy black cherries and currants, laced with espresso, dark chocolate shavings, mint, eucalyptus, sweet clove. Very pretty, well-structured for near-term aging or a good decant, but surprisingly approachable. Includes 11% Petit Verdor, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, aged 17 months in 70% new French oak.

Decanted 1 hour no sediment, gave this an 87 back in August8, 2014, what a difference a bottle makes or maybe it was the 19 months or both. This bottle was very good, plenty of black cherry, sweet currants, dark ripe plum, hints of dark cocoa, totally integrated tannins, low acidity and ready for action. Classic Napa cab in every aspect, absolutly delicious!

Wow this was good. Decanted for an hour plus and the wine really opened up. Smooth silky dark fruit with vanilla and restrained but noticeable oak. Long finish with great complexity. Crowd pleaser for the sophisticated palette and a wonderful representation of top tier Napa cab without a huge price tag.
