Still had a cherry fruit note to it, and depth, although clearly drinks like an aged Cab. Really enjoyed it, a rare treat to drink something from the 1980s.

It’s mellowed, it’s lighter body now, but the cork was intact & happily there was still enough fruit that it was enjoyable and fun to hang on to all this time. Cheers!!!!! No bottles left.

had a glass or two of this, then dumped it... not "spoiled" per se but wasn't that compelling... came from the cardozo bin (which has dozens of wines kept in a garage for years in the 90's) so not unexpected that it wasn't up to snuff

Retail $200? The very first vintage of Chimney Rock. Clearly the color has faded a bit but the nose is stunning. While most of the fruit has faded there is some dark fruit but you have to search for it behind the tobacco, an oaky component, and a slight herbal quality (rosemary?). It is also a bit meaty with a leathery aspect; all quite compelling. Whoa. The palate is elegant, tart, leathery, and layered. For a forty year old wine? …

Low-neck fill, perfect cork, and the original price sticker still affixed to the bottle. Can you believe Chimney Cabs cost only $12.99 back in the day? Dried cherries, sous bois, caramel, and a curiously attractive whiff of inner tube rubber on the bouquet. Earthy, tertiary, and luminous, with vibrant acidity and savory, briny, red fruit vitality that kept gaining intensity with every sip. Old School and straight up delicious.

Decanted 2 bottles on 10/22/04. Full bodied and totally smooth with mature tannins. Guests were amazed. These bottles from an original case purchased when issued retained Followed with a 1998 BV Reserve which couldn't come anywhere close to the mature bottles of '94 Chimney Rock.
