Granny Smith apples and more than an evolving petrol note on the nose. The palate has tart lemon and lime fruit with a long acid backbone. It is likely to fill out with another five years in the cellar.

Dry riesling at Qing Xiang Yuan (Chicago, IL) : On the lean side of dry riesling, but this one works quite well overall. (Apparently there was also a strong freshly-opened-can-of-tennis-balls smell, but I don't know what that smells like.) Mineral and bright, with a focus on herbal elements, followed by some tart white fruit. The palate isn't too rich, but there's a good amount of fruit that is probably more on the tart side of things. Nonetheless, the minerality here …

Very pale, plentiful spritz in the glass. Faint nose. Pretty mute and watery, possibly past its best (poorly stored?). Acidity still good, quite lemony. Modest varietal characteristics emerge after a while, but rather diluted, dead midpalate. Just a mute phase between youthful zinginess and mature richness? Hard to say. At this price, it's okay, but I can't recommend it. [Screwcap; 12.5% abv; Scotmid (Co-op), reduced to clear at £6.25]

Smooth. Soft acids with lime in a long tingling (almost spritzig) finish. Lots of fresh slate and mineral

Very fresh, very high acid that is borderline unbalanced. Very tart citrus, lime, grapefruit. Notes of mineral, stone, oil.

Nothing special but an enjoyable riesling. Nice to have a young one so no overwhelming petrol smell to deal with. Impressive that it stayed good over a two week period of drinking it a little at a time.

Citrus and green apples on the nose, very high acidity, crispy, dry and fresh. Good balance, a little short ending.

Fresh lemon and lime on the nose and mouth, light bodied, refreshing, good acidity initially and then a drying salty, crushed sea shell finish. I enjoyed it but not much complexity which I'm sure it will gain with age. This would be great with battered fish and chips.

Negociants Australia Portfolio Tasting : Lanolin, chalk and musk. Palate has a touch of sweetness about it that I like. Good length and texture.

Jim Barry Tasting (Vintage Cellars, Double Bay) : Quite herbaceous with sweat, lemon over lime, green apple and wet stone and flint on the nose. In the mouth the wine is tart and sharp with an almost chalky and effervescent quality (like dissolved CO2?) Lemon over green apple from flavour perspective. Hmm. Needs time but shows potential.
