Ceritas, Hellenthal Vineyard Old Shop Block Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast

Popped and poured. Pale translucent ruby color. Nose of amarena cherries, raspberry, a bit of cranberry, some floral notes and a touch of sweet baking spice. Very pretty. Similar flavors on the palate with pure red berry fruit flavors along with hints of spice on the backend. Medium+ acidity, medium- tannin, medium body. Long finish. Really delicious pinot that is in a great spot and not showing any signs of going over the hill at this point.

Rich S pinned it down well in his tasting note. It gets better with decanting and several hours of air so I think there is still some upside, even though there is sa risk that the cherry cough syrup finish notes increase with additional age. Very food friendly but it's subtle so you don't really want to overpower this with anything too spicy or wild. maybe some sautéed mushrooms on a grilled sourdough toast?

I've got the same tasting notes as ACIDQUEEN. My cork completely crumbled, though, unfortunately. Wine is great though! Hellenthal is consistently one of my fave Ceritas.

This is a lighter bodied style, which I prefer in any case, and at 10 years old it is drinking nicely. Slightly bitter cherry fruit, sandalwood and earth. Tannins have faded. This has good balance and can be drunk with food or without.

Similar flavors on the palate with juicy, delicate red fruits and some slight herbal, spicy cough drop flavors on the back end. Medium+ acidity, medium- tannin and body. Delicious pinot noir made in a lighter style I prefer.

Final bottle. Showing visible signs of age, and the bright fruit has somewhat faded as well. If you prefer your pinot to be fruit forward, then this bottle has gone beyond that. However, this has become more food friendly and comfortable. Paired wonderfully with Cacio e Pepe last night. In a nice place unless you prefer the fully throttled in your face Pinot that these can be when young.

Medium dark red, opened 60 min before tasting. LIght cherry and spice nose, plenty of cherry fruit, not much else going on. A decent wine but on the lighter side than most Ceritas pinot noir.

A little too understated, a little too cherry, lacks a certain Ceritas charm and elegance. Maybe the next bottle will cheer me up.

One of the first "new California" Pinots I've cellared and since harvested, so this was a test. I happy and relieved to report that the wine has aged beautifully and offered up a bottle with just a little gray around the temples but still plenty of vigor and a lot to say -- and desire to say it. I haven't had any qualms with Ceritas wines, but this alone is enough to make me want to cellar more.

Maddie's 3rd Birthday Party (Our House) : Rustic and understated cherries, light earth, dried herbs de provance and touches of smoke and ash. Palate shows restraint and finesse. Red Hot candies, light molasses and some jerky. Some nice Old World elements.

Most of the 2013 Ceritas Pinots were very lean on first release, so I have been holding back on drinking these. It was a good call, as they have improved significantly. This one has wonderful aromas of black cherry, boysenberry, rhubarb and sandalwood. Really required decanting. Flavors were similar, and the opening was quite nice. Fresh red fruit and strawberry bouquet, but just some tart red fruit on the palate. Lacking depth and intensity. Weak bottle or too young?

12.5% abv. Medium burgundy red, expressive aromas. On the palate, cherry, spice and stone. Excellent depth and length. This energetic Pinot is tense and vibrant. I expect this will continue to improve over the next 4-7 years.

Really enjoyed this even at this age, there's a wonderfull poise and elegance to the dark/red berry mix with soft Stone and spice notes on the nose, silk and fresh mouth feel with the fruit dancing on the tongue with a nice long finish
