Lovely wine, drinking very well now. Peach, Melon and a bit of Mayer Lemon. Struck match in there as well. Balanced acidity carries the wine through an extended finish.

A richer style of chardonnay than many. Very enjoyable. Peach and maya lemon, butter, fragrant spice, oak. The acidity is starting to mellow a little, but still provides a nice backbone. Has a couple more years, though probably past its peak.

Excellent. Very similar comments to 2017 and 2021. Great length and acid is still really defining and keeps it clean and prevents early ageing. Long finish. January 2022.

Excellent. Similar comments to previously. Colour: pale straw Bouquet: peach and melon Palate: real peach and melon and buttery, with oak character, but not in any way overdone or blowsy because it's still got good acid which gives it a steely mineral character. Long finish. Superb elegant wine. August 2021

Tinge of green atop a golden colour. This really surprised me, thought it would be on a downward slope but still feels on the up. Liking the balance. There’s a nice line of acidity driving it along. Oak only a bit part. Lovely. This bottle saw terrible storage too. Thumbs up to stelvin.

This is still young! Building it's buttery profile but with lemon core and clean acid. The green gold colour confirms it has 4 years plus to go to the apogee. Stelvin cap ensures a long life. Picked early and somewhat lean in profile (12.8%) it will never scale the heights of opulent intensity but v good nevertheless.

Enjoyed this wine over 3 days and must admit it drew me more and more. More viscous than expected. Presents as a yellow tinged green colour. An interesting blend of pineapple, melon, honey and even a bit buttery. Rounded but not flabby. It had both a fullishness of flavour (spectrum) but yet a certain delicacy and elegance. Enjoyable wine that stands on its own.

Lake's Folly Birthday lunch (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point) : Stone fruit, sweet spice, lemon, quite polished cedar, butter, oak and some alcohol heat. Okay.

Lake's Folly Birthday lunch (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point) : slight cream, sweet spice, lemon, a little white pepper. Softly juicy, smooth, quite rich after the nose, butter and stone fruit over lemon curd. Nice.

Nice wine - young and still finding its place in the world. All the elements are there. The fruit is bright with grapefruit and melon. There is also creamy notes, typical of Lake's Folly. I think the next bottle will be next year.

Honeydew apple almonds, struck match and a mealy coat. Hits some subtle lemon and white nectarine as it slips over the tongue effortlessly. Nice finish, well balanced. Very good

Drinking superbly. I've tasted quite a few aged Aussie chardonnays recently, many of them the modern lean picked style with MLF blocked and 1) yes they age slowly and 2) no they don't taste any good or improve with age. If you have Grand Cru Burgundy fruit it might work for you this way but Australian chardonnays need to be treated differently regardless of the current trend. This wine is smooth, integrated, complexand has no tertiary Hunter characteristics yet and …

Made under cork and stelvin, this is a stelvin note (cork bottles looked decidedly darker). 12.7%. Melon and stonefruit bouquet spectrum, modern chardy style. A bit of butter and cashew. Smooth in the mouth is first impression then mouthweight then fruit in cashew/butter/stonefruit and then you see the core of acidity keeping everything tidy, definately modern reserved but not lean style, structured. Long finish of melon and a touch of alcohol heat suprisingly. A chardonnay survivor in the modern style, …

SLDS July 2017 (Cirrus) : Mango, honey, orange peel, peach and hay. Soft fruit on the palate, but the acid cuts well through the middle - open and ripe, this is a nice contrast to the more restrained Chardonnay that is in vogue right now. Drink over the next 5 years.

Although the Hunter Valley is better known for it’s sublime semillon, it also makes some spectacular chardonnay, and this is one of them. The lime and white stone fruit are quite intense and in perfect balance. The extended lees maturation delivers superb secondary complexity. There is a rich volcanic minerality that is unique to the Hunter Valley, supported by an oaty and nutty mid-palate. The lightest hint of smokiness, a nod to the great handling of the oak. Sensational.

Excellent, absolutely superb wine. 12.7% alc. Tasted alongside a Tyrrell's Vat 47 2008, Pegasus Bay Virtuso 2013 (both of which Bradon brought), plus a recently acquired 2015 Stefano Lubiana from Tasmania. The Folly was possibly the best rated of the evening though they were all superb, and especially the Pegasus Bay. Colour: very bright light golden Bouquet: melon and peach, nutty oak vanilla, but all subtle. Very clean and fresh. Palate: great fruit density, similar flavours to bouquet, apples and …

Likely to have a few years yet. October 2016

Never previously tasted whites from Lakes Folly so was interested to try. It's pretty typical style out of Hunter. Wine is very good. Oak dominates much of the palate but there is quality fruit and zippy acidity underneath. I'd hold for a couple of years at least to see if it becomes more approachable. Perhaps a touch overpriced for what it is at the moment.

Hunter Valley Roadtrip 2015 : Meal, oats, lemon, butter and mild oak aromas. Good power to the palate, the length and texture are both very good - a little more spark and brightness would be appreciated but I still liked it.

Hunter Valley - 6 Cellar Doors (Hunter Valley) : {screwcap, 13%, A$50} Grapefruit and lots of oak. Quite nutty in fact. Medium-bodied, dry and savoury, medium/full-bodied, fine cedary and nutty flavours. Medium acidity, with a medium length finish. Pretty nice chardy, although doesn’t really grab at this age.

Wine-Ark boys on tour - Hunter Valley 2014 - Day 2 (Hunter Valley) : on the nose firm peach, slight cream and butter and toast, hints of citrus. In the mouth lemon notes - quite citric in fact - but also butter cream and mid palate fur. Balanced. Quite simple but lovely.

Mega-Pointer Dinner (Yuan Wei Deep-Sea Garoupa, Serangoon Road) : This was really excellent. It took awhile to get going the last time round, so this bottle was popped several hours before dinner and then decanted for half-an-hour before serving. It was beautiful when we got to it. There was a lovely nose on this one, almost Burgundian, with beautiful drifts of Japanese pear and Fuji apples, a squeeze of lemony aromas, some cream and lots of lovely floral notes riding …

Lawrence's Birthday Dinner (Chao San Cuisine, Beach Road) : A really nice effort. This was another wine that started out a little awkwardly, but bloomed as it warmed up and took on some air. It had a subtle nose, showing bits of mineral, a bit of spice, a light toast and some white fruit wed to a touch of cream and a nice flowery tone that hung around in the background. Nice stuff, if a bit reserved. The palate showed …

Hunter Valley - 7 Cellar Doors (Pokolbin) : {screwcap, 12.7%, $60} Rich, worked but youthful nose of oak, nuts, grapefruit, and even some butterscotch. The palate does indeed have the acid you fear it might be missing, although as chardies go it’s medium-full bodied (20% malo). With rich tropical fruit flavours leaning just a bit towards the front palate, and tidy french oak in the middle, it still manages a medium-long dry finish. Good effort, and under screwcap (first time?) …

Medium golden in color, with a good balance of orange, and lemon rind, butter, som eminerality, and integrated oak. A little leesy and with some minerality and freshness, although I woul dlike a little more in my Chardonnay. It avoids clumsiness, and has a pleasant richness of texture without being flabby. Rich and round on the palate, very well made in its style and at peak. Well done.
