Ruby red in color. 13.5% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, baking spices, soil and flowers. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Bright, crisp and refreshing with a cornucopia of tart fruits. Cranberry, pomegranate, blood orange and nutmeg on the palate. The finish long and supple. Brilliant Beaujolais on a warm Summer night. Best over the next several years.

Light red in color. 13.5% ABV. Sensational nose of red fruits, citrus and earth. Light to medium body with strong acidity. Fresh, vibrant and loaded with tart, crunchy fruits. Cranberry, pomegranate, orange rind and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Delightful and easy to drink. Best over the next several years.

Shut down at the moment. The palate is thin and the finish is tannic. Has a great frame so should round out, but will be best 2025-2030. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 89.

I was fortunate enough to receive a very sound bottle; just a touch of VA, barely any brett funk, but enough to lend a spicy earthy undertone. The standard Lapierre juicy red/black fruit with a firmer structure than the Morgon -- an interesting option, but at the end of the day, the Morgon wins out for me. But maybe let's see what a bit of time brings?

Popped and poured; no formal notes. I found this bottle of the 2018 Juliénas to be good…but not on the level of enjoyment that I get from Lapierre’s standard Morgon. It’s very pretty and floral…and a bit natty with some barnyard funk reminding you that these wines see the lightest of touches. A nice, somewhat rustic wine. Perhaps I’m being a bit harsh…but the Morgon is so compelling in comparison. Drink now.

11 months after the prior, and our last of 14: Rather cloudy dark ruby. Still very big and quite barnyardy in a pleasing way. Good match with barbecue. But it lacks vibrancy, and could benefit from a stronger acid backbone. Even though our initial euphoria has waned, this was still very enjoyable, for the warm vintage that it reflects, over three nights.

Opened and decanted a half hour ahead of sausage basil pasta and mixed salad. Funky barnyard on opening. Murky, cloudy purple-crimson color. The floral nose brings potpourri, purple lavender, spring violets, blueberry compote, and some orange zest. The palate is medium, square, dense, and just juicy enough, bringing blackberries, rhubarb, wood smoke, cloves, cherry bitters, and sweet raspberry jam into and extended finish. Rustic style with great depth and precision. Drink 2022-2026. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.

Approximately three months after the prior: again lovely, deep, quite rich, with just enough acidity to keep it lively. Very enjoyable over three nights, even though it’s not quite the stunner that we first opened approximately 15 months ago.

7+ months after the prior: again quite rich, deep, and umami. Sufficient acidity but, on reflection, it could use a touch more. Still, extremely enjoyable, again over three nights.

Delicious. A little funky with notes of anise. Nice acidity to make it last another few years.

My second bottle of this in a year's time and I continue to love it. Pop and pour with a slight chill and the first thing you notice is the unreal nose. Vibrant fresh blackberries, violet flowers and potpourri. It was extremely expressive right out of the gate. Medium-deep purple color seemed to match the blackberry theme. Smooth tannins, with nice acidity that wasn't overpowering on the palate. Blackberry's and fruit were all reinforced, with an addition of earthy funk …

If I had tasted this blind, I would have called new world hipster natty wine. The nattyness is that overbearing. A lovely wine once you get past that wall of VA and funk. Edit: this is weird. From the last glass in the bottle, it was hazy and super natty with some air. But I decanted it into five small 4oz bottles and those bottles didn't show the nattyness at all - it tasted more like I'd expect Lapierre to. …

As before: Bright, rather voluptuous & rich, but with balance and acidity making it quaffable. Very enjoyable over three nights.

This, our second, was not quite so superb as the original; by comparison it seemed a bit subdued. Yet still it was a lovely umami experience. Highly enjoyable over three nights, and we secured more.

Surprisingly deep, dark and serious. Scents of dark raspberry liqueur, violets, aromatic bitters, and ironlike tones. The nose really opened up after an hour with beautiful fresh black fruit, really effortless. Palate was textured like velour- long-lasting bloom of dark chocolate cherry cordials, less acidity than I was expecting, low tannin, but so, so intensely flavored. Really unique and beautiful. I can see why so many say Lapierre is the gold standard for Beaujolais. I guess 13.5 ABV is a …

This was easygoing with riper, darker fruit but a lighter body. Not much tannin, a bit of "natural" funk, quite ripe. Some acid but not enough to balance the fruit, leaving this a bit flabby. The label says 13.5% abv but I wouldn't be surprised if it were higher. Unfortunately what I had feared for a 2018, lower acidity and riper fruit leading to an almost jammy character in this wine. Not unpleasant but not my style.

Wow. Of the approximately 3,000 different wines we’ve tasted over the past 10 or so years, this is easily in the top 10. Often we gravitate toward savory elegance, with just a touch of barnyard. This is more in the direction of “controlled sauvage.” It shows deep black fruit, and is rather brambly, with a suggestion of wild yet silky creaminess, old leather with some white pepper. Brilliantly distinctive and in harmony. If I gave scores, this joyful bottle would …

Obviously young at this stage. Very fresh, full of cherry, blackberry and sweet spice. Dry palate with mellow tannins but high acidity and low alcohol. A very good bojo but at almost $40USD, this is no longer a bargain. Time to look for other options.
