Picked this one up at Whole Foods in West Hollywood for $14.99. The 2010 vintage marked a great year for less loved sibling of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Vacqueyras region of the Southern Rhone. This cuvée is 50% tank aged Grenache and 50% wood aged Syrah. A light Pinot Noir esque nose of anise and candied cherries. Earthy midsection with bright jammy red fruit, pepper, and Asian spice. Plush, gorgeous vacqueyras, one of the best. Typical for appellation, with a little bit of purple hue, very dense, almost chewy, with typical southern Rhone flavor package with extra vanilla beans.
