Probably my oldest Cali syrah by years of aging. Purchased when first offered by Copain. It has shed all of its roughness. It lost some of its fruit, but still maintains a good dose of dark cherries. there is acidity which touches upon citrus in the background. The mouth feel is everything you want in a wine, soft and smooth. Decanted at 6 pm and followed from 7 pm to 10 pm. The nose is gradually developing a floral component …

I get blueberries on the nose and finish more than the blackberries that others have mentioned, but otherwise recent notes by Chadrich and J@y H@ck are close to spot on. This wine scores higher for sybaritic pleasure than for complexity, yet it is certainly not confected or blowsy at all. Goes down easily as an aperiftif, but has enough acidity and structure for food, especially duck. [My bottle was recently acquired as part of the large Winebid sale of Copain …

Nice. Still drinking good, but starting to fade. Some mice fruit. Tannins and alcohol are mellowed and well integrated.

Bacon fat, rosemary and sweet-tarts on the nose. Blackberry and root beer notes on the palate. Silky mouthfeel. Finish is bold and long showing just a bit of residual alcohol. Showing much younger than its age. Likely has another 3 to 5 years, probably best in 2 to 3.

Smooth, developing but still not fully taking on the extra complexity of age. Somewhat subtle. Fruit but not jammy and no sharp edges.

My suspicion is that this is a few years shy of peak, but very drinkable right now nonetheless. Secondary/tertiary flavors are coming on strong, but there is still a clear streak of primary blackberry coming through. Little to no heat. Fantastic stuff.

Early 2016. Note not contemporaneous but I remember thinking that Wells Guthrie should not have changed his style.

Bought from the winery on the original offer. Decanted and then followed for two hours in a Zalto glass. Color was dark red with just a tiny hint of bricking in the color generally. Very very smooth. Better after two hours. could probably use even more air. Red fruit, spice. great balance. no sweetness. Just beginning to develop tertiary flavors but not yet at its peak. Glad to have more.

The wine is a deep, dark purple color. The stunning nose is full of blackberries, minerals, roasted herbs, white pepper, warm baking spices, smoked meat, violets, blueberries, and a healthy dose of earthiness. This has fairly full body, moderate tannins, and good acidity. On the palate the fruit and spice jump out first, quickly followed by roasted herbs, pepper, and meaty elements. On the back end some nice earthiness comes into the picture. The finish has very good length and …

One of my favorite Copains in reason memory. A pop and pour this bottle was tasting quite young that should have received at least an hour decant. Happy to have a couple left and am in no rush to drink my remaining bottles

Ugh, the horror. My last bottle. Drinking now as softly as an 03 Copain Gary's Syrah. Heavily extracted but not too much lees.

They thought that if they took away my power and my internets that I wouldn't drink wine. Lets just say that the three years taken off my life as a result of Hurricane Sandy prove that I am man with a mission so calm down and listen. This wine is the jam; dont give me no heat like sam the butcher bringin' alice the meat or like fred flinstone driving around with bald feet. This was a good recovery wine. …

Full throttle style that straddles the fence nicely. Dark berries, oak and tar on the nose. Black cherry and spice on the palate with a nice hit of tannin and acidity to clean things up on the finish. Went well with Philly-style sausages on the grill.

Drank at Iberian Pig decanted for 30 min with items like pork cheek tacos. I love this wine. Big and solid but nit overly extracted. Good earth and spice with nice fruit balance

Aromas of dark fruit, smoked meat, and olive. Fruit forward flavors consistent with the nose with full body and excellent balance. Nice character and pleasant, lengthy finish.

91+. This finally showed the best on the third night kept at cellar temp. Dark fruit, grilled meat, less tannic with a touch of oak, full bodied but not a bomb, sweet finish.

PnP. Crushed blue/black berries, briny roasted meats and pepper/spice. Great balance of deep berry flavors/palate weight and briny tension backed by tannin and acidity. Not much finesse and the complexity is low, but very expressive of its personality and able to pair well with food.

Lots of Blueberry (could be expected), and mulberry (very rare, but delicious), amazing long finish with stone, earth and astringency--this wine seems to be at the beginning of a very long delicious drinking window.

nice example of what I had been hoping for from Copain: Old World style with good balance, and not-overpowering fruit, but a consistency and smoothness that appeals to the New Worldly.
